what about buying this http://www.theupgradeplace.com/Tr...D10-M.html
Then installing Windows 8? This guy seems to have gotten Windows 8 to run reasonably on 800mhz and less-than minimum resolution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK-1u8DIRk0 The biggest difference would be RAM - 512 vs 1GB. |
|
Windows 8 on 512Mb of RAM would be torture... A slim Win 7 Ultimate with handwriting recognition might be good though.
I think a mini PCIe SSD is a much better option (simpler and faster)... Something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KingSpec-...519d528994 I would try it but I dont have the fund ATM. Make sure if you do get a mini PCIe SSD that its not actually an mSata because it wont work. Also, please if you do try let us know ![]() I replaced the 3G module with a GPS which adds a lot of functionality too... |

For those facing the "no device detected" problem with the HSPA modem utility, follow the steps below:
1.>> Install Drivers for H10 modem: Install .net 3.5 > Run BenQTools_V1.1.0.18_Chinese_2G3G.exe (MIDTools_V1.0.0.4.msi is an older version of the same utility) > there may be an error msg regarding file I2EC.exe, acknowledge it and restart the PC > Launch the BenQ MID Utility > Turn on Wifi/Bluetooth and locate drivers (WIFI folder) when asked > turn on the 2g/3g and locate and install drivers (H10-S WinXP 32bit) when asked > confirm in the device manager that 02 modems (H10 USB modem on com3 and H10 USB Data modem on com4 are installed under the "modems", and an unidentified "data interface" is installed under "ports" > Manually install the driver for the unidentified "data interface" using the H10 modem driver folder itself, after which it appears as "H10 diagnostics interface com5" under "ports"> Restart the MID. Note: U must manually install the driver for "H10 diagnostics interface com5", if not, it will be impossible to perform the firmware upgrade, it will fail. 2.>> Upgrade the H10 modem firmware: Run QDownload.exe from the folder H10_V1.03_DownloadTool > check all options and select MSM6280 > under the "phone one" window select com5 i.e select "H10 diagnostics interface com5" > start > the modem firmware will be upgraded > once the procedure is complete, close the QDownload.exe > confirm in the device manager that only 01 modem (H10 USB modem on com3) is installed under "modems", and a new device "H10 wireless ethernet adapter" appears under "Network Adapters" > also the "H10 diagnostics interface" will be changed to com7 3.>> Connect to the cellular network: Run HSPAmodemSetup_V5.exe > open the HSPAmodem utility from the desktop and confirm that the network reception is made and the device is detected as "H10 wireless ethernet adapter" > If u perform the installation and testing of the HSPAmodem utility before upgrading the firmware, the HSPA modem utility will detect the signal but will report "no device detected" and will not be able to make connection. Thats it !!! Anshul |

Hi folks, it's me again. I've done some customizations that really make the BenQ S6 shine, and I wanted to share it with everyone:
http://themangatron.blogspot.com/...-umpc.html There's some interesting stuff I posted, such as making right-clicking less frustrating. It's a very good read, and I think it would be very helpful sharing this info with everyone who bought this S6 too. I don't like seeing people say they wasted money on this device, it's a very pocketable PC that really, would have never been this cheap in a perfect world, but it was and I'm glad to be a part of it. |
