Not a chance in hell that this would run Win 7 in a way that you could stand. 512mb ram is simply not enough. I don't think Win 7 will even install with that little memory, but even if it does, it will run like total crap.
I ran Win 7 with 512MB of RAM.
It wasn't that bad, page file makes up for a lot of it.

You can get the Linux OS for this device here (search for it).
Wonder if this will work with the T-Mobile $30/mo plan... if so, I may have found a phone that runs WinXP and can dual boot Linux.
In for 1.

just bought one. anyone think its possible to upgrade the ram in any way by soldering in a new chip? it must use similar ram to SOMETHING right? i want to use this as the brains of a mame build im working on but not sure how to output the video to a monitor. could i wire something into maybe or would i have to run it from usb? can i run a monitor by usb off a hub since i will need the controls plugged in too? i really doubt this will work but either way this thing will be incredibly fun and/or frustrating to play with, and it was stupid cheap. whats the smallest win7 install anyone is aware of? i doubt this thing will work with micro SDXC so my 64GB card probably wont work. will wait to see if anyone can get a 32GB card to work. otherwise i will use this as a tablet thats actually useful, unlike my android ones.. Smilie (maybe)

EDIT: will also try my $30/mo tmo sim card in this as soon as i get it. will report back. :p

Find me a brand new phone that has an intel processor and runs Windows XP for $60.

Then you can participate in this discussion..

What about the $349 Y570?
Lenovo restocked tonight. I was busy with this thread and missed it.

It should definitely support VLC. Don't expect 1080P MKVs though. laugh out loud
Well... it has a GMA 500. The GMA 500 was specifically designed for 1080p video.

Can't, way too little space with the 2gb SSD. Won't work with windows 8, or windows thin pc or windows embedded (windows thin pc and windows embedded are stripped down versions of windows 7 that have less requirements than windows 7 starter, meant for terminals, cash registers, etc.)

Why wouldnt it work with embedded? My last install of Win 7 embedded was less than a GB, and it ran on 512MB Ram.

no camera or GPS, but it has a cell radio. Would run on at&t's 3G I suppose.

Hmm..I don't know. This looks...interesting.

I...I want one to tinker with, but I feel like it would be an immediate waste of $60.

Windows 7 Starter edition was what I was thinking.

...it ran on my Netbook, which honestly, doesn't have much better specs than this (1GB of RAM. Atom was clocked at 1.3 or 1.6 if I recall).

...I think I could get Starter to run. Challenge accepted.
now buy another one for me so I can try other things and we can exchange notes
