Get the hell out of here SDRebel. I don't need you justifying my waste of money.

I just got my $50 Huawei replacement from Cowboom today btw. laugh out loud
i forgot to check back on that thread. Mine is ok but when sleeping it seems to wake up on its own and get stuck on a huawei screen (liek the one when turning on) and that seems to kill the battery...what's wrong with yours? not sure if I should send mine back, is it much of a hassle?

According to a listing on eBay, this supports 32GB microSD cards...

What the heck - in 4 1 toy - like others, I want to run MAME. Or lubuntu. Maybe both, but I've been out of touch with xmame for a while.

according to some on the ultrabook forum, this has an pci-e slot, wonder if a cheap pci-e ssd would work on it.

I have many such tiny XP PCs.

1) Yes it runs full XP and runs it smoothly like any netbooks. Windows 7 is too sluggish on it.
2) Battery life is only 1 to 2 hours.
3) The PCI-E slot found in these netbooks are usually for USB devices only such as 3G modem, won't work with SSD etc.
4) It can play 1080p HD smoothly (DVXA hard decoding in GPU) including full Bluray movie. See this article for details:

And this Youtube is proof:

That article says it won't even work on Intel GMA3150 graphics. This BenQ thing has GMA500 which is several generations behind. This thing probably has trouble with 360p full screen YouTube.

Not a chance in hell that this would run Win 7 in a way that you could stand. 512mb ram is simply not enough. I don't think Win 7 will even install with that little memory, but even if it does, it will run like total crap.

Maybe, maybe not. I installed Win7 Ultimate RC on an iPAQ Desktop (1GHz CPU, max 512MB RAM, circa 2000), and it ran about as fast as XP does on it (slightly faster, probably, but I never benchmarked it)

Read that article carefully again: only GMA3150 cannot do HD, GMA500 and older can!!! Intel made a huge mistake removing HD from GMA3150 and that killed netbooks.

Can your 486pc be converted into a 3G GSM WIFI router hotspot for your car?
I don't think so.

Like the kind that can run a stateful inspection firewall with a squid proxy server to prevent your kids from surfing porn or chatting on facebook after 9pm using open source linux/freebsd distro.
I've set up secured WIFI proxy servers for companies with 200 employees on throwaway computers with less ram/cpu/storage than this. Think celeron 256MB ram, 120MB HDD.

Can it run a wireshark/ethereal wifi sniffer?
I dont think so.

Or a light weight file server that you can take with your. E.G. put in your camper or boat?

It has enough computing power and portability to run Linux and do some serious damage in the hands of someone who knows how to hack things together.

$60 is a no-brainer

I feel like I want this, but can't find a good reason I'd ever need it, even if it is only $60. Would this be capable of running an Asterix distribution like PBX in a Flash? Someone give me a reason. Or better yet, don't.

The company BenQ has been bankrupcy long time ago (2006, because of acquiring Siemens). I don't want to waste $60 to get a old and no warranty product

Some ideas -

-Photo frame using UNC to connect to your desktop's photo stash
-Squeezeserver/player
-Slingplayer (use it as a digital TV)
-FTP Server
-NAS with the addition of an external HD
-Plex, Tversity, etc. server (might not be fast enough for recode)
-Baby monitor, recorder for Foscam/IP Cam (again, with external HD)
-Pr0n
