Was there free shipping on this original deal or was it $100? I see the price now is $389 but with free shipping. I see some other people are charging $100 for shipping.

Thx

Yes, but the Catleaps may involve breaking some plastic to get to it. The Shimians have their VESA holes exposed right from the get-go.

Yes. If you're in Hawaii or on the West Coast, you might get it even faster. FEDEX/DHL/UPS can be VERY fast if they are paid enough.

I think it's very unlikely that any video card that is capable of native 2560x1600 resolution is incompatible. However, some BIOSes do NOT like the fact that a video card has no scaler and will refuse to boot up without one. Other BIOSes may simply boot up but not show you anything on-screen until you magically show up in Windows or whatever your OS is. In both cases, I think the solution is to simply your old monitor plugged in as well as the Korean one. It doesn't even have to be enabled or on, just plugged in; the mere fact that it's plugged in will reassure cranky BIOSes. Whatever the reason may be, I know that this workaround worked for me on one of my computers with a cranky BIOS.

If you don't have space for the workaround detailed above, just get a monitor with a scaler. The cheapest ones are still like $450 though which makes these Korean monitor deals less hot of a deal. You can identify which monitors have scalers by checking to see that they have something OTHER than a dual-link DVI connector. If it has DP, HDMI, VGA, or something other than DVI, it must have a scaler inside.

There's no way to scientifically answer your q without testing... and it varies by model. I only have firsthand experience with the Shimian but can tell you it isn't that bad. You would have to deliberately push it to get it to fall. You can also just mount it on your own stuff if it has VESA mounting holes, which I think most or all of them do, although I hear that the Catleaps don't have holes exposed and you may need to break some plastic to get to it or something.

They are all glossy screen. Some of them also have tempered glass in front for easier cleaning, but you definitely do not need it unless you think you are going to sneeze on it or something a lot.

You are welcome, and the cheapest one is like $450-500. For that extra $175 or so, you get a built in scaler, calibration tools, and sometimes also a built-in speaker if you are into that kind of thing. In all cases you are still buying without a usable warranty and with a guaranteed defect (else the panel would have been sold as a Apple CinemaDisplay or something for a LOT more money). The upside is that the defect is usually pretty minor like one dead pixel or worse backlight bleeding or something that most people could live with in exchange for a lower price.

For those of you entering the thread just now, I have written on this topic in exhaustive detail. Feel free to read through my replies to others, as I've probably already answered your question over the course of writing this post...

Hope that helps! Feel free to PM me with any not-already-covered questions, as I am probably not going to be checking this thread further this weekend. Good luck, and happy deal hunting! Smilie
Not all are LG s-ips. My qnix is samsung PLS panel n clockable over 120 hz. You people need to read overclock.net before bandwagon n regret after bc you have no idea what you bought. Dont expect dell ultrasharp build quality. That being said. This catleap is fine. Tbose of u who are thinking about 450 version with dvi hdmi and all that bullshit. Get the dell $550 27 that was on a few days for newegg. If u goin to pay 450. Spend the extra 100. The rest of us roll dice at 280. Extremely happy with my purchase

Catleap hasn't been below $300 in a loooong time. I don't think any of the 27" Korean LG S-IPS panel monitors have been below $300 for a while. Shimian usually the cheapest. Sooner or later, prices have to drop again.
