Thread Details

Went to my local Best Buy store today and they had the Nikon D90 new on a clearance for $599!!! Original price is $1,199. They didn't have any in stock but they could order one in store. This is a VERY YMMV!

Thanks & Reps to OP and me jmuralinux Smilie

For everyone who is asking how to find the price of the item in local stores please have the following tips:

1. Just go to your nearest bestbuy and ask them to check for this item in stock. Just ask them what's the current price in that store. They will obliviously say "it's out of stock or discontinued" but will confirm the price. Then ask them to check the nearby stores. When they do that ask them what are the stores have the item for 599. You can tell them 'I just wanted to know if I can find a at least an open box, even if it says out of stock and going to the stores that has for lower price will make more sense' like that. You can even ask for a printed receipt which contains the list of stores and prices.

OR

2. Go to bestbuy.com and search for the nearby stores using inventory checker selecting any item. Get the phone number of each store and note them down with the addresses. Call each store and give the SKU and ask the price of the item first and ask them whether they have it in stock or even a display model (just to get the price). NEVER ASK WHETHER THEY WILL DO THE PM OR RETURN AND RE-BUY OR CREDIT CARD SWAP This will shutdown your chances and others chances very early.

Just know the price, go to the store, look for a charming CSR girl and bring the receipt to do a CC swap and tell them that you have a better cash back in this new card (if it is required) and politely talk to them. If it goes wrong, silently come out and do not create any scene and go to the same store in the noon or evening and ask another CSR. It will definitely happen with any one CSR smoothly.

This is an awesome LEGIT Deal! Go ahead and give Best Buy a call and see if they have it in your area. Cool

  • All you to have to find a store that's selling it for 599. How? Go to any Best Buy and ask them to check SKU: 8975184, try to ask at a terminal where you can look over their shoulder/maybe a terminal on the floor
  • If that store has it in stock, you are good to go .. just buy it with them and move on to the next thing!
  • If they don't have it in stock anymore ask them where all they could be available in neighboring zip codes. Their system will show the availability (may be at 1199 or 599 - who cares!).
  • Have the store where you are at showing for 599 to do an OMS (Order Management System) so you can pick it up at the store showing in stock. They will call the new store to verify and ask them to put it aside for you at guest services.
  • You pay at your current store and just take the sheet (rep will give it to you) with you and pick it up at the new store!
  • Say Thank you to the REP and to the OP
  • No go in South florida

This is the predecessor to the D7000 (which is a step up). Also better lens.

HOLY &%%*.. If this is true run don't walk! This would be a smoking deal... Too bad I'm selling mine. The D90 is an amazing camera and at this price with the lens it is a steal!!!!

This would be awesome if replicable. The 18-105mm is the lens to have, without stepping up to the $600+ zooms. You're basically getting a brand new D90 body for $300, which is great. I had the same kind of deal happen last year with a car stereo. They had a great clearance price on a Kenwood receiver, but only open box in store. The rep was nice and was able to put in some kind of special order to get a NIB one sent to my store, under my name. Got a great deal, thanks to some employees willing to pay it forward!

If you don't know, then you don't need it. It's more expensive for the same reason that the D300s, despite having a worse sensor, is more expensive than the D7000. Get yourself a D5100 and happy shooting to you!

google shopping is typically accurate as far as current best buy prices, just type the exact name/title of the product from the bestbuy site to google shopping

The D90 imho is still a way better camera than the d3k/d5k as far as being a camera. Built in motor, flash commander, top lcd, lockable focus point, better viewfinder, more external controls, the list goes on and on... I guess if you care about video the newer models are better, not that I would use a Dslr for video. I was using mine for birds but just upgraded (yes upgraded to an older D300 for the AF system, AF fine tune and to meter with my non cpu lenses. If none of this makes sense, ignore this deal if you can find it! My flickr page in my signature is mostly shot with a D90... If anyone cares...
