Thread Details

Went to my local Best Buy store today and they had the Nikon D90 new on a clearance for $599!!! Original price is $1,199. They didn't have any in stock but they could order one in store. This is a VERY YMMV!

Thanks & Reps to OP and me jmuralinux Smilie

For everyone who is asking how to find the price of the item in local stores please have the following tips:

1. Just go to your nearest bestbuy and ask them to check for this item in stock. Just ask them what's the current price in that store. They will obliviously say "it's out of stock or discontinued" but will confirm the price. Then ask them to check the nearby stores. When they do that ask them what are the stores have the item for 599. You can tell them 'I just wanted to know if I can find a at least an open box, even if it says out of stock and going to the stores that has for lower price will make more sense' like that. You can even ask for a printed receipt which contains the list of stores and prices.

OR

2. Go to bestbuy.com and search for the nearby stores using inventory checker selecting any item. Get the phone number of each store and note them down with the addresses. Call each store and give the SKU and ask the price of the item first and ask them whether they have it in stock or even a display model (just to get the price). NEVER ASK WHETHER THEY WILL DO THE PM OR RETURN AND RE-BUY OR CREDIT CARD SWAP This will shutdown your chances and others chances very early.

Just know the price, go to the store, look for a charming CSR girl and bring the receipt to do a CC swap and tell them that you have a better cash back in this new card (if it is required) and politely talk to them. If it goes wrong, silently come out and do not create any scene and go to the same store in the noon or evening and ask another CSR. It will definitely happen with any one CSR smoothly.

This is an awesome LEGIT Deal! Go ahead and give Best Buy a call and see if they have it in your area. Cool

  • All you to have to find a store that's selling it for 599. How? Go to any Best Buy and ask them to check SKU: 8975184, try to ask at a terminal where you can look over their shoulder/maybe a terminal on the floor
  • If that store has it in stock, you are good to go .. just buy it with them and move on to the next thing!
  • If they don't have it in stock anymore ask them where all they could be available in neighboring zip codes. Their system will show the availability (may be at 1199 or 599 - who cares!).
  • Have the store where you are at showing for 599 to do an OMS (Order Management System) so you can pick it up at the store showing in stock. They will call the new store to verify and ask them to put it aside for you at guest services.
  • You pay at your current store and just take the sheet (rep will give it to you) with you and pick it up at the new store!
  • Say Thank you to the REP and to the OP
  • No go in South florida

crazy deal. after switching to NEX 5N system, I sold my D90 kit for $900 on CL after using it for 4 yrs. newer chips handle noise much better. Even D3200. But at this price, i will order 1 just to resell it Smilie D90 gives you much better control, but in term of IQ, can't compare to newer chips.

why is this thread 2 thumbs down?

It is a really good deal. AND the OP said "Extreme YMMV"... Because it's hard to replicate doesn't mean it deserves a td

Went into local Best Buy and had them look it up on their computer - where it shows how many each nearby store has. It showed $599 and although they had none in stock they were able to order with free shipping to my house. $655 total with tax in Chicago area.

Please show me an order confirmation or something. I tried and tried at store and with the Best Buy 1-800 but they wouldn't budge. All they had was the display and it looked questionable so I didn't bite.

Here's my contribution[STORE TAG], [imgur.com] I would greatly appreciate help with getting an online order through. They have some in stock about an hour and a half away, so I had a friend check there. No joy.

The D90 is the red headed stepchild of the Nikon line. Go up or down (D7000/D5100) but don't buy this overpriced, all plastic, no gaskets POS.

Had to go to 2 different stores before this worked. They went into their OMS system to order it. I just have a paper receipt at this point.

What are you talking about? It isn't weather sealed, but who cares? I have never had any DSLR break on me because of water damage or seen it happen. Plus, how many people REALLY use the weather sealing of their DSLRS:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z45-xTrDeiE
Most people that tout weathersealing keep their cameras in a Think Tank bag, wrapped in a neoprene mini-case, and covered with camera armor. They take their cameras out only in their living room, after they've vacuumed and wiped down every surface that has a chance of coming in contact with their precious equipment. I used a D40 with 18-55mm lens in the middle of a water balloon fight, and the only damage was a temporary haze on the inside of the front element. 4 years later and it's still working like new, passed it on to my cousin.

It's the D300 sensor with minor electronic improvements, and more features than most photographers would need. It has semi-professional controls, decent framerate, commander mode, screwdrive AF, etc. I don't know any knowledgeable or serious photographers that regard it as the "red headed stepchild of the Nikon line." Especially if you can get the kit brand new for $600, it's the Nikon deal of year.

Oh wait, I get it. You're telling everyone to skip this so that you can buy up all of them to resell, since slickdeals has degenerated into ebay seller land.
