Is your screen resolution displaying properly? I did the exact same steps as you. Fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Then installed the Catalyst 12.7 Video Driver, and Chipset Driver, and also downloaded and installed all drivers available on the Acer website. However, my video still seems to be working incorrectly. CCC won't open at all, says the video card is incompatible with my driver, and resolution will not go above 1024x768. |

I already have a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit DVD, I was just asking to confirm. I did try with the Recovery Discs, and the process took I think over 2 hours. Was terribly slow. And then after it started, all seemed fine, except it was bringing up this prompt every time, as if the computer was starting for the first time every time "Preparing desktop, etc"...and then it ended up locking me out and saying "Administrator account has been disabled, please log in to another account", which there were no other accounts. So tried again with my Windows Ultimate 64-Bit DVD, and this time, as soon as I installed, I went ahead and put the driver/application DVD in, and installed everything...all drivers and most of the applications (any that I didn't know what they did, that way if the video card needed them for some reason, they'd be there), and this time it seemed to work fine. Was able to get the native resolution (applied it itself actually after restart), and all the other settings "switchable graphics" show up again. Not sure why it didn't work the first time I tried using the driver/application DVD like you stated. But that time I only did the drivers, none of the applications...and I'd also already done some other drivers/programs on the computer before I read your response...so maybe that had something to do with it. But tried again, and worked like a charm. Thank you SO MUCH for the help. I was starting to get a little mad, but just figured, what the hell, I'll put the SSD in my desktop as a storage device, or something. But glad it ended up working, and you're to thank for it. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Just got everything installed and working, as far as I can tell. Upgraded to a 128GB SSD (Samsung deal from the other day), and 8GB's of RAM (Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz downclocked to 1333MHz).
My WEI went up for RAM and Hard Disk as expected, but also went up quite a bit for graphics, which surprised me, to say the least. I thought it'd help graphics go up a little, maybe +0.1, or +0.2, but it actually took my scores up +0.7 each. IIRC they were 5.3 and 5.9 (or 6.0). Of course, take WEI scores with a grain of salt, as always, since they don't mean too much. The one game I have installed so far, "Fallout 3", haven't really tested too much, but it almost seems like it lost 2-3 frames in some area's. However, haven't done extensive testing. And the area I'm at in the game "Tenpenny Tower", I was actually getting a little lower than normal FPS on my old HDD/RAM as well, so might just be that part of the game. We'll see though. Also included AS SSD Benchmark Screenshot for those interested. |

hmm.. msi kombustor seems to be still stress testing with the igp, integrated 6520g from what the info says while testing. i disabled crossfire in the engine control center and set msi kombustor to high performance. i also make sure to choose direct3d 9/10/11 in the 3d api menu before starting the burn-in test.
any idea how to make kombustor stress test with only the 7670m gpu? |

For Kstat, I am running 2.35 @ 1.15v with no issues. At 1.125v I was getting system hang and crashing, but bumping up voltage one notch stopped that, havent had any issues after a few days of gaming and web browsing.
I returned my corsair vengeance ram and will probably buy an 8gb 1333 kit instead, my system seemed to be having issues with downclocking the 1600 memory. |

Does your 3rd core (core2) drop to about 800mhz during stress testing? i read that it is normal to have it drop. just want to make sure. also, what temps do you see at that setting? Last edited by neenja; 07-14-2012 at 05:21 PM.. Reason: Edit |

Yikes. So still running at 2.3 with 1.1375v. I have prime and kombustor running now.. it has peaked at a 90c temp. lil too scary for me, so im gonna bump it down to 2.25 and so forth.
to everyone overclocking, i highly recommend you run prime along with msi kombustor. prime will just stress the cpu itself, but kombustor will also stress the gpu. pretty much giving you an idea of a peak o/c while playing a graphic intense game. without kombustor running and only prime itself, my temps stayed around 80-83c. Running 2.35 at 1.15v, I got up to 86 degrees after about 15 mins of kombustor and prime, but that amount of load seems very unrealistic, the machine is totally chugging the entire time to get to that temperature, and games requiring that much load wouldn't be playable. It only gets to about 70 in normal gaming at high settings in my experience.
If your 3rd core is dropping in prime, you probably need to up the voltage a notch. |
