Just cancelled my newegg order for the ASUS A53. I'd rather have dedicated graphics and 1GB of RAM for $40 more, even though this is an ACER.
Repped! |

It finally made front page. A worthy laptop with the only bad thing being the smaller HD size 320GB (Most laptops have 500gb, 640gb, and 750gb), and possibly Acer name brand is a negative for those who've had bad luck with this company. But I've known many people who love their Acers.
But you could always change out the HD for an SSD one or larger HD. Last edited by atoneapone; 06-23-2012 at 09:31 PM.. |

This laptop sounds like the k53ta asus i got last summer from bb for $450 a6-3400 and a 6650m. I can play D3 @ 1080p through hdmi full settings except shadows on medium and fps between 40-50. It plays Skyrim @ naitve res 1366x768 with no problems with a mix of high/ultra settings 25-40 fps. Overclocks like a dream both gpu and cpu, just dropped a 120gb ssd in and it absolutely screams now. Don't think there was a game that I've tried that doesn't play well, witcher 2 deus ex 2 pretty much everything except rage when it came out. Can't go wrong all my desktops are intel but this fusion/dgpu combo is hard to beat for the price.

I see a lot of comments relating to gaming, but how good would this be for general use? Seems anything good for gaming, should be better than good for general use. Don't do much laptop researching, but a relative is looking to upgrade and looking for the best options in the 300-500 range. General web surfing, office programs, etc. Should I pull the trigger on this, or what other option are out there to consider. Thanks in advance.

I love Acer Customer service, they have never done me wrong. One of my netbooks about 1.5 months left on warranty the battery only charges to 92% and I use this thing daily, they tell me fully discharge blah blah imma computer nerd and did that stuff already and i told him i did it and they 2nd day me a new battery. they sent me a 3 cell and not a 6 cell mine came with. Call em up again they look at the s/n again apologize and send me a 6 cell and tells me to keep the 3 cell.. WOOT..
And then recently again another one of my acer netbooks does the same thing, call em up sent me one no questions asked. and it turns out my pup chewed my power cord a bit and it didnt fully charge.. whoops lol... looks like i may pick one up! |

I don't like tigerdirect. They have had rebate scandals in the past which tarnished their reputation. They don't even have the courtesy to offer free shipping (whereas Newegg does for it's recent laptop deals). Their return policy sucks. This shouldn't be frontpage....no deal.

The price on this Acer is the lowest gaming laptop available. In a search for a budget gaming laptop I'd also consider these alternatives with a few better features: (however price is a bit high on all of them in comparison to the Acer) $530 HP A8 6750m refurb>>http://www.tigerdirect.com/applic...ZGVFTu.kmQ $579 Acer intel i5 6850m>>http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/c...details&Q= $480 Asus A6 6650m (goes in&out of stock)>>http://www.cheetahdeals.com/ASUS-...m?CartID=1 Last edited by atoneapone; 06-23-2012 at 10:12 PM.. |
