It's a dual core i5 with a 6850m, which is a lot better than the one in the 15" I'm thinking of selling my K53TA for that, but no confirm if it does full SATA III 6gbps or just 3gbps. Our K53TA does 6gbps with the modded bios found in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/a...could.html That thread also proves that the A6 + a nice card works great. This 15" Acer is a step up from the start from the K53TA since it's a 3420 vs a 3400 & it's a 7670M which is 4-5 cards above the 6720g2 (xfire for us). The 17" Acer has a killer card & the dual core i5 is great per youtube videos I've watched for gaming. Can swap it out for a quad i7 if need be. Anyway.. before pulling the trigger on the 15", I'd check if anyone knows what SATA speeds are possible, because I for one don't want my SSD running at half of what it's capable of. I'll grant that AMD has legacy code issues with Modules, but it's just downright silly to say that Driver cores suck at multithreading. Why on earth would AMD market a *binned* lower end GPU as a higher end product? That just doesn't make sense. Last edited by Dillweed; 06-23-2012 at 11:50 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I just returned an A8-4500m laptop after playing with it for 1 week. I have personal experience with trinity and I did all sorts of tests. and it sucks compared to my llano. The A8 is only 400mhz slower than the A10, so I know what Trinity can do. In realworld tests like microsoft office, you won't see a difference. I don't care that you are running some extreme bajillion core amd cpu. Apples and oranges here. I am comparing consumer level notebook amd to amd. nvidia and amd rebadge gpu's all the time. This 7670m ddr3 is very similar to 6650m, with a few tweaks. Nearly identical performance. They're just renumbering it, not marketing it as a higher end product. In CPU work an A10 slaughters a Phenom IIx4 BE --but like I said, I use Solaris AKA Unix. I don't have to worry about my OS getting in the way --but I also know how to get my memeory timings right. I use four dual module CPUs for the higher clocks and increased RAM/PCIe lane counts. That's only 4 "cores" per chip --16 total "cores" on 8 modules. My point was about legacy code, and that's unrelated to core count. And YES it is marketing it as a higher end product to go from x650 to x670 --it's why people were annoyed that a 5870 was faster than a 6870 --until the 6970 dropped. dude. chill out.
my A8-4500m had ddr3 1600 modules in dual channel. Certainly not bandwidth starved. For most people, this Acer A6 will be a better deal than any Trinity laptop you'll get for around this price. The Trinity A8 is selling for $550 now, with no discrete graphics card. This 7670m kills any integrated graphics you'll get with Trinity. Last edited by link626; 06-24-2012 at 12:21 AM.. |

My problem is with your bashing of Trinity --which doesn't suck one iota. |

http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-...962.0.html The only difference is that the 7670M uses DDR4 and GDDR5 instead of DDR3, which gives marginal performance increases. They're literally the same chip - even manufactured on the same 40nm process. As far as the reason why, it's because both nVidia AND AMD have always been very sleazy/slick with their mobile GPU's. They badge their GPU's with similar model #'s to their desktop versions and basically add the "M" as a sort of disclaimer. Power users will know exactly what the M hides, whereas most people would make the reasonable assumption that they're comparable. For people worried about the speed of the processor itself, you might be interested to know that these processors can actually be overclocked pretty easily... |

I just ordered this laptop from TD just 3 days ago and it was $399 + shipping
I had a $20 coupon and after shipping it was $389 I also so ordered up 8 gb's of DDR3 1600 mHz to replace the 4 gb's of 1066 mHz RAM that comes with this system. This should allow the APU (CPU/iGPU) to breathe a bit more and allow for a bit faster experience.I bought this for a daily work horse and also for some gaming on a budget. The integrated GPU (iGPU) is good for most things and if the crossfire works with the dedicated GPU (dGPU) than the gaming experience will be much better. Worse case scenario is that I'll just have to use the 7670m (DDR3 version) dGPU for my gaming. I've also been reading up on the K10stat program that will allow me to OC the CPU portion of the chip and get some better gaming results if I so desire

Yes, I too wish that mobile GPUs were branded as what they are. A 685m is quite literally a 470 desktop, and it would be nice to see it called a 470. A 5870m was effectively a 5770 --it should have been called a 5770. What is odd for AMD is reusing the Evergreen arch on the Pacific Islands numbering scheme. AMD always does that crap in the same generation of arch --but rarely do they do what Nvidia did with the 8800GT. Hell, that chip got around like a cheap whore LOL. And I can definitely vouch for how well the Stars core OCs. All those power states give massive headroom even with a locked multi. |
