ok guys so im having a bit of buyers remorse. I ordered this laptop for gaming, as well as 8gb of 1333 ddr3 g skill ram. my only concern is the processor. Iv been looking at the Acer Aspire 7750 AS7750-6458 available for $579. it has the i5-2430M and AMD Radeon 6850M 1GB Graphics and also a 17 inch screen. i like that it has a bigger monitor but i really like that it has an i5 and the gfx card seems to be a lot better. im willing to spend a the extra money it seems like a big upgrade for the price. what do you guys think? how much of an upgrade is the the 7750 AS7750-6458 from this unit for gaming? im thinking its about a 20ish fps difference in games. do you think its still good value at that price or is there something else comparable that will game the same? thanks.

if you guys could give me your opinions asap i would appreciate it, tiger direct has limited returns on the acer laptops and the only way i can return it is if i dont accept the shipment when it arrives according to tiger direct customer support. the laptop arrives on monday so i don't have much time to make up my mind. thanks!
So what did you do? I'm curious if you kept the new laptop or ended up returning it?

I had tried it before you replied, because I'm courageous (foolish), and it was running hot at idle, along with horizontal line artifacting after a time. Flashed the original bios back, and it's all good. I don't think that bios has been tested beyond "it boots". Haha : )

i do notice a slight weird delay lag in Heroes of Newerth ever since this driver was installed..

i wonder why its not compatible? even on 3dguru and amd's website itself, this is the link to the mobility version. I even used the amd mobility driver installer and it foudn 12.8

also, there still is an option to disable dual graphics and configure which are to be set as high performance or not.. why wouldnt it be compatible?

Just an update.. the lag I got in Heroes of Newerth is now gone, I believe it was caused by some background running programs I had. Cleaned all that up.

Still on 12.8 drivers and used Trixx to overclock my videocard to 725/900. Noticed a nice lil performance boost on graphic intense games.

Bootups with hdmi plugged in is fine now.. but I still get those sporadic horizontal lines on the screen.

when you installed 12.8, did you get a black screen during the installation? when mine go through the installation, it goes to a black screen (led still on), but it never came back to the desktop. i had to roll back to 12.7 beta

Someone else may have already had this issue, but I installed a SSD (Crucial M4, 256GB) along with a clean install of Windows 8. I'm part of Dreamspark Premium through my school, hence the reason I already have access to Windows 8. Anyway, my laptop no longer powers off when I tell it to. To clarify, if I tell it to shut down, it will stop just before the laptop powers off. The HDD turns off, but the fan is still running. If I do a hard power down and boot back up, it's perfectly fine and gives no warning or error messages normally associated with improper shut downs. Similarly, the computer can't complete a reboot process due to the same reason.

I'm wondering if maybe there's some slight incompatibility with the new SSD and this laptop, or maybe Windows 8 has issues with this laptop. Or the SSD might simply need replaced. Ideas?
