T-Mobile’s Back-To-School Promotion Begins July 1st
TMobile upcoming back-to-school promotion beginning July 1st offering promotional family plans with $5 Classic and $0 Value add-a-lines. This promotional offering will offer savings of $5 per month, until January 2, 2014.

The promo offer is good for all Classic and Value plans that have shared limited buckets of minutes and the 500-minute AAL on unlimited family plans. Free nights and weekends, and other t-mobile.

Notes/Fine prints:
  • Good for both new and existing customers, and of course it requires a two-year contract. Existing customers will be required to change their existing rate plan and extend their contract on all lines to take advantage of this promo. A quick reminder that a contract extension for a rate plan change does not affect your upgrade date for a new phone
  • No grandfathered features (no myfav, no tzone, no web2go, no ...etc).
  • Tax+fees depending on your location, +12% in CA. Some military or corp -5% to -20% discount. Also tax on migration fees, and smartphone.
  • You do NOT need to get all 5 lines, but current promo gives you 3rd, 4th and 5th discount until Jan 2, 2014. Pricing will not change if you only get less line. After Jan 2nd, 2014, you will have to pay $5 extra for each 3rd, 4th and 5th.
  • Once that line/number are on Value plan, current t-mobile policy will not allow you to get back to plan which offer subsidy in future. So once you are in value plan, you will always have to buy devices yourself.
  • One account can have upto 5 lines. One person if qualify can have multiple accounts.

Best deal on value plan. Corp, military discount can be applied.

I have worked hard to pull info from different official sites to create this deal...rep me if you find this a good deal hug

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Classic plan also have this promo benefit, but monthly will be slightly more, BUT YOU GET BETTER DISCOUNT on smartphone. Value plan customer needs to buy smartphone at "retail price". In my location, costco retail price on smartphone is cheaper than t-mobile retail store.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO GET THIS DEAL

STEP 0: Check t-mobile coverage in your area: http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx
If you are new to t-mobile or getting a new plan, please do the activation in person, do NOT use t-mobile chat. This will save a lot of grief and human error, a wisdom from many experienced t-mobile customers.

A.If you are still in contract t-mobile customer, call t-mobile directly for the add-on promo. If you are interested in value plan, they will have to check if you qualify for value plan. Check migration fees below. For NEW customer, I would recommend going personally to costco or tmobile retail store. Update, just learn this myself on 7/5: You can get this online. Put the package into the cart first and then customize each line at checkout, http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Pack...kages.aspx. Update 7/6: if you cannot get unlimited plan via t-mobile website, you can call t-mobile directly or goto retail store (t-mobile, costco, best buy...etc). It's still available, t-mobile website is just missing lots of features and plan.

B. IF you are interested in value plan and planning to get a smartphone at costco, eg Samsung S2, do steps below:
1. First make sure you qualify: out of t-mobile contract or qualify for upgrade (not value plan) or less than 6 months left on t-mobile contract (not value plan) or new t-mobile customer or currently value plan customer wanting add-a-line, AND (access to costco membership and data plan)
2. Goto local costco. Tell them that you wanted value plan and wanted smartphones as well. Do your transactions. New activation is free, not sure about existing add-a-line customer. Sim is free.
3. Go home, make sure everything works and happy. If you have corp/military/eduction discount..etct, then call t-mobile CS. They should be able to apply for you.
UPDATE 7/23/2012: Costco will NO longer sell S3 with value plan.
UPDATE 8/07/2012: Costco now require phone purchase with all value lines activated. Thus I would recommend ONLY activating value plan lines for smartphones (first two line) or (add-a-line). Costco smartphone are decently priced but all their dumb phone are really really expensive! Then goto t-mobile stores to add/activate the rest. Remember to ask for free activation.

C. You DO NOT need to goto costco to get the value plan and classic plan deal. You can get value plan or classic plan along with smartphone anywhere, eg: t-mobile store, amazon wireless, walmart, ...etc. Major differences is the pricing of the smartphone. You can always buy at independent market like google nexus at google play or ebay or craigslist or amazon store. Costco is only mentioned here because they have great smartphone price when u activate/signup there. Where and when you activate/signup the value plan will determine the cost of your smartphone. So if you signup/activate at costco, then you get costo smartphone pricing. If you signup/activate at t-mobile store, you get t-mobile store smartphone pricing, you cannot go back to costco to get costco smartphone pricing later for that line. Lesson here: signup/activate plan or line where the smartphone is cheapest, and get the smartphone for that line at the same time.

D. If you don't want to buy smartphones for value plan, then just goto t-mobile store. It'll be free sim and NO activation fees. Note that once you are already in value plan, in future, you will NOT be able to buy smartphone for those lines at value plan prices, not in costco and not with t-mobile. Those lines will not be able to transfer back to a subsidized t-mobile plan (eg: classic, ...etc). This is the current t-mobile policy. It may or may not change in future. You can buy phones at ebay, craigslist, google play or get pre-paid phones, ..etc. Note that phone prices trend is dropping like crazy.

E. If you decide to buy smartphone, remember that tax on smartphone is based on retail price. If you pay migration fees, there will be tax on that too.

My experience shows that being nice to the salesperson or cs makes getting the deal easier, especially retention laugh out loud
----------------------------------------------------------------------
MIGRATION FEES for existing t-mobile customer still in contract and wanting to move to value plan. Depending on when you get your phone subsidized, there maybe a migration fees going to value plan PER LINE. Tax on migration fees. Official doc from t-mobile: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-3282. Use this if anyone tells you differently.

You may want to call them and verify. Tmobile online thing said our employer wasn't eligible when i tried to check it and turns out it was 17%. I filled out the form and got confirmation it was added all within like an hour. I thought it was 15% but the girl that emailed me back to say it was added at 17%. I didn't argue Smilie

And it did renew our contract for 2 years but luckily we just signed up 2 days prior.
Oh neat. What is the number to call to check?

i just called customer service from my phone and they looked it up and told me how to fill out the form and stuff. Maybe even check your local store they may know the local places that do as well.

I have 4 smartphones on a classic 1000 shared minute plan. $59.98
Family Unlimited Msg $20
REQ Classic Simple 200MB Data $40
Add a line $20

All in all, taxes, misc., about $170 minutes about $20 in discount so I pay about $150 for all four lines.

My question is, can I do better?

Keep in mind that we get new smartphones every 2 years, practically or literally for free.
I am looking at the same question. But I think the question is: is the tmobile going to stick with going to an all value plan. If they are, then you might not be able to get the free phones in the future. In which case, migrating to a value plan may be cheaper. The plan is 10 less, data is 20 less, messaging is 10 less, and lines are 10 less. So it would the be monthly difference for the rest of the contract vs migration fees for the 4 lines. The difference is $1200 over 24 month, so that is $300 per person for the next smart phone. If you think u can find a smart phone for less than $300 next time, it might work out as well. $300 is around the price of a nexus, but probably not going to get the next generation of samsung galaxy phones at that price.

In the value plan options it says:

Unlimited Messaging Family
Send and receive any type of message you want, in any combination you want. Text, IM, picture, or video messages--its up to you! And the best part is one bundle covers up to 5 subs

The button for this option says $10 under each phone. When I click on this option for all five lines it charges $10/line = $50 and it doesn't give me a bundle option.

Am I only supposed to check this $10 button for the first phone and then all the lines get unlimited text as the instructions indicate? But when I do this it only gives unlimited text for one line. Is it not giving me a bundle price due to a glitch?

Remove the $10 a line in individual services and under shared services, you'll see domestic messages for $20.. If it doesn't show up, call 611

Sorry, I thought you meant for classic plans...

Yes, for the classic plan I see the bundle option for $20, but not for the value plan even though it says bundle for one price under the value plan description.

Sorry if this has been answered but am looking for some clarification on the specs below:

UNLIMITED MINUTES WITH DATA VALUE PLAN:
add $25 for 3rd, 4th, 5th each for unlimited talk.
Add $10 for 3rd, 4th, 5th each for 2GB high speed.
Add $25 for 3rd, 4th, 5th for 5GB high speed, $10 per line mobile to/from mobile (skype, google voice is not consider as mobile).
Add $20 for unlimited nationwide un-throttle

5 lines for $80: (2 unlimited talk/text) + (3 lines unlimited text, 500 minutes each) << add $10 for 2GB, $20 for un-throttle data, $25 for 5GB, $25 for unlimited voice
5 lines for $100: (2 unlimited talk/text/data with 2GB at 4G) + (3 lines unlimited text, 500 minutes each)
5 lines for $110: (2 unlimited talk/text/data with 2GB at 4G) + (1 line unlimited text, 2GB at 4G, 500 minutes each) + (2 lines unlimited text, 500 minutes each)
5 lines for $110: (2 unlimited talk/text) + (3 lines unlimited text, 2GB at 4G, 500 minutes each)
5 lines for $120: (2 unlimited talk/text/data with 2GB at 4G) + (2 line unlimited text, 2GB at 4G, 500 minutes each) + (1 lines unlimited text, 500 minutes each)
5 lines for $120: (2 unlimited talk/text/data with unlimited nationwide, un-throttle data) + (3 lines unlimited text, 500 minutes each)
5 lines for $130: (2 unlimited talk/text/data with 2GB at 4G) + (3 line unlimited text, 2GB at 4G, 500 minutes each)
5 lines for $130: (2 unlimited talk/text/data with 5GB at 4G) + (3 lines unlimited text, 500 minutes each)

Questions:
1) What does 2GB at 4G mean? Is that all the time at 4G until you go over 2GB & then get throttled?
2) Looking at red above specifically - if I wanted to add 3rd & 4th lines to original 2 lines, how much would it cost for adding lines & also for adding 2GB data?

& is that data @ HSPA+ speeds all the time until 2GB is breached?

1. Specifically, 2GB just means after you reach 2 GB, you will be throttled to a really slow speed equivalent to Edge (if not slower). HSPA+ speeds cannot be reached all the time unless you are an area with all the towers upgraded to HSPA+. In other words, if you are in an area with such technology, then theoretically, yes.
2. Basically, for each line you add $10/mo for 2 GB of data so in your case 2 lines would be an additional $20/mo. The add-a-line costs should be free until January 2nd, 2014. However, if your planning to have the Add-a-lines with unlimited minutes, then the discount does not apply. After January 2nd, 2014 (unless otherwise stated) should be $5/mo per a line (assuming you did not opt for unlimited minutes for the extra lines you added to the plan). Unless, you already signed up for value plan before or after this promotion, then it would be the regular $5/mo for each line.

Thanks for this thread guys. Switched over to the Value plan today. Retention was great. Offered me the loyalty discount without asking. Very nice lady. Love when you get to speak to Americans.

I went with the:

5 lines sharing 1000 minutes, unlimited text, 1 line with unlimited data and 1 line with 2GB)

With my normal 12% discount and loyalty discount I will pay $77 a month.

Now I got to go get me a Nexus 4 from Google.

Just spoke to "Lily" in retentions.

3 lines, 1000 min, unlimited text, 2G data each line. Total for $79.99 - $10 loyalty /month + taxes for 24 months.
My previous classic plan (700 minutes) bill was about $112 month + taxes (2 T-zones).
Lily also made my billing rate retroactive to the previous month's bill to save some me some additional money.

I will wait until I can check my bill then add my 15% company discount (Tmobile Advantage).

Thanks, Lily!

Just to be clear, for each line, you will only be paying a migration fee + tax (on the fee) and no ETF to switch from a classic plan to a value plan? The migration fees are pretty much the ETF?

If this is the case, I think I will take advantage of the free Nexus 4 deal going on and add a new line and a few days later pay the $200 migration fee + tax. But I guess I'd have pay tax on T-mobile's retail price of the Nexus 4 when ordering it for free?

Above is true, if the retailer DO NOT have additional break up fees. Places such as wirefly, frys...etc. WILL have additional fees. Places that don't have additional fees are costco and t-mobile itself. Also, check before signing contract.
Tax in CA is charge on retail pricing, before discount. Not sure about other states.

thanks for the rep. FYI, t-mobile rebate takes 2-3 months, and if you want the $50 rebate back, you maybe struck in classic plan paying monthly fees until your rebate arrive.....OR you can just forget about the $50 rebate, and goto value plan. Personally, I will just skip the $50 rebate.
