T-Mobile’s Back-To-School Promotion Begins July 1st
TMobile upcoming back-to-school promotion beginning July 1st offering promotional family plans with $5 Classic and $0 Value add-a-lines. This promotional offering will offer savings of $5 per month, until January 2, 2014.

The promo offer is good for all Classic and Value plans that have shared limited buckets of minutes and the 500-minute AAL on unlimited family plans. Free nights and weekends, and other t-mobile.

Notes/Fine prints:
  • Good for both new and existing customers, and of course it requires a two-year contract. Existing customers will be required to change their existing rate plan and extend their contract on all lines to take advantage of this promo. A quick reminder that a contract extension for a rate plan change does not affect your upgrade date for a new phone
  • No grandfathered features (no myfav, no tzone, no web2go, no ...etc).
  • Tax+fees depending on your location, +12% in CA. Some military or corp -5% to -20% discount. Also tax on migration fees, and smartphone.
  • You do NOT need to get all 5 lines, but current promo gives you 3rd, 4th and 5th discount until Jan 2, 2014. Pricing will not change if you only get less line. After Jan 2nd, 2014, you will have to pay $5 extra for each 3rd, 4th and 5th.
  • Once that line/number are on Value plan, current t-mobile policy will not allow you to get back to plan which offer subsidy in future. So once you are in value plan, you will always have to buy devices yourself.
  • One account can have upto 5 lines. One person if qualify can have multiple accounts.

Best deal on value plan. Corp, military discount can be applied.

I have worked hard to pull info from different official sites to create this deal...rep me if you find this a good deal hug

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Classic plan also have this promo benefit, but monthly will be slightly more, BUT YOU GET BETTER DISCOUNT on smartphone. Value plan customer needs to buy smartphone at "retail price". In my location, costco retail price on smartphone is cheaper than t-mobile retail store.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO GET THIS DEAL

IZE="4"]STEP 0[/SIZE]: Check t-mobile coverage in your area: http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx
If you are new to t-mobile or getting a new plan, please do the activation in person, do NOT use t-mobile chat. This will save a lot of grief and human error, a wisdom from many experienced t-mobile customers.

A.If you are still in contract t-mobile customer, call t-mobile directly for the add-on promo. If you are interested in value plan, they will have to check if you qualify for value plan. Check migration fees below. For NEW customer, I would recommend going personally to costco or tmobile retail store. Update, just learn this myself on 7/5: You can get this online. Put the package into the cart first and then customize each line at checkout, http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Pack...kages.aspx. Update 7/6: if you cannot get unlimited plan via t-mobile website, you can call t-mobile directly or goto retail store (t-mobile, costco, best buy...etc). It's still available, t-mobile website is just missing lots of features and plan.

B. IF you are interested in value plan and planning to get a smartphone at costco, eg Samsung S2, do steps below:
1. First make sure you qualify: out of t-mobile contract or qualify for upgrade (not value plan) or less than 6 months left on t-mobile contract (not value plan) or new t-mobile customer or currently value plan customer wanting add-a-line, AND (access to costco membership and data plan)
2. Goto local costco. Tell them that you wanted value plan and wanted smartphones as well. Do your transactions. New activation is free, not sure about existing add-a-line customer. Sim is free.
3. Go home, make sure everything works and happy. If you have corp/military/eduction discount..etct, then call t-mobile CS. They should be able to apply for you.
UPDATE 7/23/2012: Costco will NO longer sell S3 with value plan.
UPDATE 8/07/2012: Costco now require phone purchase with all value lines activated. Thus I would recommend ONLY activating value plan lines for smartphones (first two line) or (add-a-line). Costco smartphone are decently priced but all their dumb phone are really really expensive! Then goto t-mobile stores to add/activate the rest. Remember to ask for free activation.

C. You DO NOT need to goto costco to get the value plan and classic plan deal. You can get value plan or classic plan along with smartphone anywhere, eg: t-mobile store, amazon wireless, walmart, ...etc. Major differences is the pricing of the smartphone. You can always buy at independent market like google nexus at google play or ebay or craigslist or amazon store. Costco is only mentioned here because they have great smartphone price when u activate/signup there. Where and when you activate/signup the value plan will determine the cost of your smartphone. So if you signup/activate at costco, then you get costo smartphone pricing. If you signup/activate at t-mobile store, you get t-mobile store smartphone pricing, you cannot go back to costco to get costco smartphone pricing later for that line. Lesson here: signup/activate plan or line where the smartphone is cheapest, and get the smartphone for that line at the same time.

D. If you don't want to buy smartphones for value plan, then just goto t-mobile store. It'll be free sim and NO activation fees. Note that once you are already in value plan, in future, you will NOT be able to buy smartphone for those lines at value plan prices, not in costco and not with t-mobile. Those lines will not be able to transfer back to a subsidized t-mobile plan (eg: classic, ...etc). This is the current t-mobile policy. It may or may not change in future. You can buy phones at ebay, craigslist, google play or get pre-paid phones, ..etc. Note that phone prices trend is dropping like crazy.

E. If you decide to buy smartphone, remember that tax on smartphone is based on retail price. If you pay migration fees, there will be tax on that too.

My experience shows that being nice to the salesperson or cs makes getting the deal easier, especially retention laugh out loud
----------------------------------------------------------------------
MIGRATION FEES for existing t-mobile customer still in contract and wanting to move to value plan. UPDATE 10/18/2012: http://www.tmonews.com/2012/10/t-...b-minimum/http://www.tmonews.com/2012/10/t-...b-minimum/
As of Oct 10, 2012:
T-Mobile did change their data feature requirement for smartphones as of October 10th. Previously, T-Mobile allowed their 200MB data feature to meet the requirement with smartphone activation.
As of October 10th however, the smallest data package required for smartphone purchase moves to the 2GB plan, though this has no impact on existing customers already working with the 200MB plan.
  • If you get smartphone WITH value plan, then does it mean the NEW requirement is 2GB minimum??
  • Not sure how/if impacts costco smartphone w/required data -- > migrate value plan (is data still required?). Does paying migration fees to break contract means data requirement from previous contract is no longer valid? Maybe someone who recently gone through this process can comment ???
  • Not sure how/if impacts buy smartphone from t-mobile w/required data in old/classic plan -- > migrate value plan (is data still required?). Does paying migration fees to break contract means data requirement from previous contract is no longer valid? Maybe someone who recently gone through this process can comment ???

The big advantage over prepaid are....
- Unlimited any T-Mobile(R) to T-Mobile calling
- Unlimited nights and weekends
- Better data coverage since data roaming is included for postpaid (Voice roaming is included with postpaid and prepaid)
- Wi-Fi Calling from anywhere in the world does not use any in-plan minutes

The big advantage over post-paid are....
-It is much cheaper for single individual.
-you won't get hit with a unexpected bill.

For single line, going pre-paid (no contract) w/Tmobile is much cheaper, note pro & cons of pre-paid vs post-paid in wiki
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans

Tax on migration fees, and smartphone based on retail price

Just a warning for those who buy phones on craigslist. If the seller defaults on their payments or call in and say their phone was stolen/lost, the phones IMEI will be blacklisted and at this point it looks like there is no way to get off the blacklist. I've been trying to see if there are any sure ways to avoid this, but I haven't found anything that seems to avoid this situation. So just be cautious when you buy some of those newer phones like the S3, S2, One S and the amaze or sensation. Buying older phones should be more safe.
Wi-Fi Calling - this is a free add-on feature for any capable phone. For Value and Classic Plan, minutes are not taken out of any non-unlimited voice plan. If the majority of your phone calls take place while on a wifi network, then it might be in your best interest to look at the 1000-minute Value Plan. You will save $30/mo compared to the unlimited voice plan. Also note: any calls that start while on Wi-Fi Calling will drop as soon as you get out of the wifi network's range; calls that start on the cellular network will continue to be on the cellular network until the call ends (using your in-plan minutes).

Please remember that ETF on value plans upto $300 per line.Check the fine print
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Pack...kages.aspx

Take an ADDITIONAL 10-% - 15% off your bill

Value Plan UNLIMITED ANY Mobile to ANY Mobile $10 per line
you wont see this advertised but its like a "hidden add-on"
Its worth it to throw the Unlimited Any Mobile to Any mobile on the "extra" lines with 500 minutes.

International Talk & Text - $15 per month/line Countries:
http://www.t-mobile.com/internati...rview.aspx

Andorra Argentina Australia Austria Bahamas Belgium Brazil Brunei Canada Chile
China Colombia Costa Rica Croatia Cyprus Dominican Republic Estonia France French Antilles FYROM
Germany Greece Guadeloupe Hong Kong Hungary India Ireland Israel Italy Japan
Jordan Latvia Luxembourg Macau Malaysia Mexico Netherlands New Zealand
Norway Panama Poland Portugal Romania Singapore Slovenia South Africa South Korea
Spain Switzerland Taiwan Thailand Turkey United Kingdom Uruguay Venezuela Zambia

200MB Data Add-on Features:

There are two types of 200MB data plans available. Both are $5/mo on the Value Plan. If you don't see either/both choices on-line, then you will need to call to get it added.

Data Add-on Classic Plan Value Plan 4G Speed Allowance Details
Simple 200MB $15? $5 Up to 200 MB, then 10 cents per MB ???
Simple 200MB Capped $15? $5 Up to 200 MB, then capped If data useage is very low, and you don't want to risk overages

http://www.tmonews.com/2013/03/br...-approach/ and http://www.tmonews.com/2013/03/t-...resellers/ state that all rate plans will be replace with one "convenient" rate plan for both the classic and value plan. Right now I'm trying to decide the value plan or take advantage of BTV.
New plan is better for unlimited minutes, existing value plan is better for unlimited data. If it's almost equal for you, then get the value plan first, because you can always change to the newer plan later. From all my reading and hints from tmonews, seems value plan are on its last legs.

Can you use a smartphone on a talk an text only plan? I've heard that you only need to activate it on a dumbphone and then switch the sim card over.

Also where is the 500 min talk add on line?

Yes, u can have smartphone on value plan for talk & text only plan. Just add "pay as you go data" feature, and then change your smartphone settings to "do NOT use cell/mobile data". This way, you are prevented from using mobile/cell data accidentally. The 500 minutes are default for 3rd, 4th & 5th line if you get unlimited minutes for line 1 and line2.

The lowest family shared minutes is 1000.

That's a good question I think their doing this because of the metropcs merger being given approval in case something goes wrong along the way?

Hello, I'm looking on the T-mobile website for value plan and I can't set it up with the same pricing listed in the front page.

I need 4 or 5 lines sharing 1000min. With 3 having at least 2G of data.

How am I suppose to set this up. Do I go select a value plan for 4 or 5 and then add extra service?

* We do not need any new phones from them

Looks to me most people now use more data (and texting) than making phone call. And it probably cost them more for data than voice calling anyway.
With the new plan, they will make more money from the data than the old value plan. So this seems like a price increase based on projection how people actually will use their cellphone for data, streaming video, etc.

In the future new plan, around Mar 28, 2013, it'll be
$110 for 5 lines unlimited talk & text, with 500 MB @4G speed per line, AND [($10 for each 2gb per line) OR ($20 for unlimited lower priority data per line)]

The new plan I mentioned above is called "uncarrier" for now, but may be renamed when it goes live end of March. It also does NOT have contract. Classic plan will still exist as is to my understanding.

Based on this
http://www.tmonews.com/2013/03/t-...resellers/

Looks like they have something call Uncarrier Classic Plans and Uncarrier Prepaid plan. Looks separate to me.

The $30 100 mins prepaid with 5GB 4G data may be gone (or at least gone for new customer) also? Or since they never promote the $30 plan before, they just don't mention it in there?
