T-Mobile’s Back-To-School Promotion Begins July 1st
TMobile upcoming back-to-school promotion beginning July 1st offering promotional family plans with $5 Classic and $0 Value add-a-lines. This promotional offering will offer savings of $5 per month, until January 2, 2014.

The promo offer is good for all Classic and Value plans that have shared limited buckets of minutes and the 500-minute AAL on unlimited family plans. Free nights and weekends, and other t-mobile.

Notes/Fine prints:
  • Good for both new and existing customers, and of course it requires a two-year contract. Existing customers will be required to change their existing rate plan and extend their contract on all lines to take advantage of this promo. A quick reminder that a contract extension for a rate plan change does not affect your upgrade date for a new phone
  • No grandfathered features (no myfav, no tzone, no web2go, no ...etc).
  • Tax+fees depending on your location, +12% in CA. Some military or corp -5% to -20% discount. Also tax on migration fees, and smartphone.
  • You do NOT need to get all 5 lines, but current promo gives you 3rd, 4th and 5th discount until Jan 2, 2014. Pricing will not change if you only get less line. After Jan 2nd, 2014, you will have to pay $5 extra for each 3rd, 4th and 5th.
  • Once that line/number are on Value plan, current t-mobile policy will not allow you to get back to plan which offer subsidy in future. So once you are in value plan, you will always have to buy devices yourself.
  • One account can have upto 5 lines. One person if qualify can have multiple accounts.

Best deal on value plan. Corp, military discount can be applied.

I have worked hard to pull info from different official sites to create this deal...rep me if you find this a good deal hug

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Classic plan also have this promo benefit, but monthly will be slightly more, BUT YOU GET BETTER DISCOUNT on smartphone. Value plan customer needs to buy smartphone at "retail price". In my location, costco retail price on smartphone is cheaper than t-mobile retail store.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO GET THIS DEAL

STEP 0: Check t-mobile coverage in your area: http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx
If you are new to t-mobile or getting a new plan, please do the activation in person, do NOT use t-mobile chat. This will save a lot of grief and human error, a wisdom from many experienced t-mobile customers.

A.If you are still in contract t-mobile customer, call t-mobile directly for the add-on promo. If you are interested in value plan, they will have to check if you qualify for value plan. Check migration fees below. For NEW customer, I would recommend going personally to costco or tmobile retail store. Update, just learn this myself on 7/5: You can get this online. Put the package into the cart first and then customize each line at checkout, http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Pack...kages.aspx. Update 7/6: if you cannot get unlimited plan via t-mobile website, you can call t-mobile directly or goto retail store (t-mobile, costco, best buy...etc). It's still available, t-mobile website is just missing lots of features and plan.

B. IF you are interested in value plan and planning to get a smartphone at costco, eg Samsung S2, do steps below:
1. First make sure you qualify: out of t-mobile contract or qualify for upgrade (not value plan) or less than 6 months left on t-mobile contract (not value plan) or new t-mobile customer or currently value plan customer wanting add-a-line, AND (access to costco membership and data plan)
2. Goto local costco. Tell them that you wanted value plan and wanted smartphones as well. Do your transactions. New activation is free, not sure about existing add-a-line customer. Sim is free.
3. Go home, make sure everything works and happy. If you have corp/military/eduction discount..etct, then call t-mobile CS. They should be able to apply for you.
UPDATE 7/23/2012: Costco will NO longer sell S3 with value plan.
UPDATE 8/07/2012: Costco now require phone purchase with all value lines activated. Thus I would recommend ONLY activating value plan lines for smartphones (first two line) or (add-a-line). Costco smartphone are decently priced but all their dumb phone are really really expensive! Then goto t-mobile stores to add/activate the rest. Remember to ask for free activation.

C. You DO NOT need to goto costco to get the value plan and classic plan deal. You can get value plan or classic plan along with smartphone anywhere, eg: t-mobile store, amazon wireless, walmart, ...etc. Major differences is the pricing of the smartphone. You can always buy at independent market like google nexus at google play or ebay or craigslist or amazon store. Costco is only mentioned here because they have great smartphone price when u activate/signup there. Where and when you activate/signup the value plan will determine the cost of your smartphone. So if you signup/activate at costco, then you get costo smartphone pricing. If you signup/activate at t-mobile store, you get t-mobile store smartphone pricing, you cannot go back to costco to get costco smartphone pricing later for that line. Lesson here: signup/activate plan or line where the smartphone is cheapest, and get the smartphone for that line at the same time.

D. If you don't want to buy smartphones for value plan, then just goto t-mobile store. It'll be free sim and NO activation fees. Note that once you are already in value plan, in future, you will NOT be able to buy smartphone for those lines at value plan prices, not in costco and not with t-mobile. Those lines will not be able to transfer back to a subsidized t-mobile plan (eg: classic, ...etc). This is the current t-mobile policy. It may or may not change in future. You can buy phones at ebay, craigslist, google play or get pre-paid phones, ..etc. Note that phone prices trend is dropping like crazy.

E. If you decide to buy smartphone, remember that tax on smartphone is based on retail price. If you pay migration fees, there will be tax on that too.

My experience shows that being nice to the salesperson or cs makes getting the deal easier, especially retention laugh out loud
----------------------------------------------------------------------
MIGRATION FEES for existing t-mobile customer still in contract and wanting to move to value plan. Depending on when you get your phone subsidized, there maybe a migration fees going to value plan PER LINE. Tax on migration fees. Official doc from t-mobile: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-3282. Use this if anyone tells you differently.

Months Completed on Contract, per t-mobile official doc 3282, lasts modified Mar 8, 2012 10:38 PM by tmo_ryanm

it's call 1000 minutes OLD value plan. No subsidize phone on value plan. You can extend your existing classic contract and get subsidize phone. It's always YMMV to get old value plan.
hmm nvm then, guess we'll only try to upgrade our 500 min plan to the 600 min plan instead of 1000 min, at least the 600 min plan I'm pretty sure gets us subsidize phones... thx 4 the explanations.
this was a total no go, called them regarding the 600 min+free myfaves plan, they said the plan has been removed from the system (or did she mean just her computer lol) & they can get me the myfaves feature but not that minutes plan anymore. Has anyone been able to get the 600 min family plan for 1st 2 lines within the last 3 weeks? Or has it really been removed? If not that one then has anyone been able to get the 700 min family plan, tho that one is without free myfaves...

I don't have a classic or value plan. We have Familytime Basic plan...it is grandfathered. I was told we could keep our plan and continue to get upgrades the way we had been. Obviously, they have lied. TMO added a 2 year contract to our acct when 2 lines were upgraded. That is why I asked about the other 2 lines as they had not been upgraded yet. They said no problem....loyalty dept can do anything. I talked to them last month as our bill was totally messed up. Each time I spoke to someone I mentioned about upgrading with a deal and told no problem. Today...I get a different answer.....no.. Ugh.
We got the 500 min grandfathered Familytime Basic plan here...the only time we never had problems with upgrading was when we were moved from the 400 min family plan to the 500 min plan lol...wish they had moved us from the 500 min plan to the 700 min plan...it is/was the same $ grrr...

Anyone upset that T-Mobile My Rewards is ending on April 30th... we JUST found out about the program like 2 days ago...unfortunately it was already no longer accepting new registrations... should've been advertised more, never heard about it at all & we've been with T-mobile for like 8 years. Anyone here redeem anything interesting from the program?

It appears that they have taken out the old data plan options? I removed it but am no longer able to re-add the 200mb for $5. The lowest option is $25 for the 4.5GB, anyone else noticed this?

I'm currently on a family plan, 5 Lines.

750 min + Unlimited text + Pref Phone First Web (5 dollars for just one line) = 90ish dollars.

Recently just got the HTC One (unlocked) and the data doesnt work.
Gives me this error: http://i.imgur.com/EMR0VlY.png

Any help would be much appreciated Smilie

Where did you purchase your HTC One? Did you get it from T-mobile directly? Or did you get the developer version that's been floating around Slickdeals?

I think I may know why you are getting the upsell page

Yea that seems to be the reason. I used that plan on the Nexus 4 before and that worked flawless. What do you suggest I do?

The deal is dead. However, you can call retention if you are t-mobile out of contract customer, and they can still get you this deal. YMMV.

If you are out of contract, call t-mobile retention. Tell them you want 1000 family shared minutes OLD value plan. It should be ~$85 for 5 lines unlimited text and 1 line with 2GB high speed data. This data plan will be compatible with all smartphones. Plan is same price but gives you more minutes and data. This is a contracted 2 years UNSUBSIDIZED plan. YMMV.

if you still insist to use your exiting old data plan ("Pref Phone First Web", web2go, t-zone, ....) look into link below for phone that maybe still compatible. YMMV.

Thanks for the reply Green.
So as of now, I've tried all the apn tricks I could find online. Nothing works.
I've contacted tmobile and they say that the cheapest one is 30 dollars for the 4gb. (If I don't change my plan)

I did come into contact with a representative saying that there's a 10 dollar data plan, but since I wasn't an authorized user, they wouldn't go into detail.

I guess what's the cheapest data plan I can tack onto my grandfathered plan?

Options that I have now:

1) Go back to my Nexus 4. Sell the HTC One 32gb (unlocked).

2) Keep my current plan, hopefully find a replacement data plan that will be compatible with my HTC One.
2a) If I end up doing this, then would it be best to just get the Tmobile version of the phone then? HSPA/3G/4G bands that are compatible with the service.

3) Call retentions and try to get the "1000 family shared minutes OLD value plan".
3a) If I end up doing this, then would it be best to just get the Tmobile version of the phone then? HSPA/3G/4G bands that are compatible with the service.

It seems like its not even worth keeping the phone if I do have to get an official data plan?

What do you think? Any help would be much appreciated Smilie

Currently I'm a prepaid customer. Is there any way I can get on the older plan through a Costco or Sam's Club? I recently purchased an LG L9, and my wife uses a Galaxy Nexus.

What's the best plan for 2 lines? I use around 150 minutes/mo, texting, and 2-4gb of data. my wife uses around 2000 minutes, 1500 texts, and around 1gb of data.

I would try to get $10 for 2GB high speed as my first choice with existing plan. Secondly, I would change to newer plan. Thirdly, selling your phone and getting a model that works may NOT gaurantee that it'll work in future. t-mobile is trying hard to shut the loophole. Also compatible phones are older and you are stuck with older ROM. As for phones, I would recommend getting t-mobile phones. Device prices has dropped so much that it's better to get t-mobile compatible band. Some that I like, with good pricing & data speed: HTC mytouch 4G (~$85 craigslist, still active dev in xda with jelly bean), Samsung SII or LG Optimus L9 (~$200), Nexus (~$300).

only way to get older plan is via retention, ie you must be existing post paid t-mobile customer out of contract.

If you want anything over 2 GB high speed, low minutes with decent pricing, I would recommend walmart's t-mobile 5GB high speed, 100 minutes for $30 monthly. As for your wife, anything over 1500 talk minutes but less than 2 GB high speed, I would recommend t-mobile MNVO like simple mobile or straight talk, ~$50 monthly plan unlimited talk, unlimited text and "unlimited" data. Note that they will kick/frozen your number if you use more than 2GB high speed monthly.

I am on the 5 line value plan with unlimited messaging.

I called in to get 2GB data added for a couple of lines at $10 each but was told that the
cheapest is $20 for 4.5GB. Any way to get the old 2GB data plan added ?

I was wondering if it was possible to get the unlimited $20 data on this value plan? I was signed up for this deal and they said that the Unlimited $20 and the $10 2GB is now unavailable? If I recall correctly, I think there was an option for the plan back when it was offered but now I don't see the option. Also, is there any other data options for this plan? I can't justify paying the extra $15 for unlimited talk for the other lines because the other three lines on my plan doesn't need the talk.

I have the same problem as lanb

I haven't seen it hit my account yet... but... I supposedly got my Unlimited Plus ($10 data plan, 2GB) changed to the new 2.5GB w/ Hot Spot ($10 new data plan) on 3 of my lines.

So I am looking at:
Unlimited 2 lines talk + text ($79.98)
500 mins each 3 lines talk + unlim text ($0 until Jan 14, then $15 thereafter)
2.5GB 4G with Hot Spot 3 lines ($30)
Taxes ~$16
Corp Discount minus ~$16
Total ~$110 now and ~$125 starting Jan 14

Still totally kills the Simply Choice plan (~$140) since I don't need unlimited talk on all lines!

Edit: Just hit my account Smilie
