Black Mold Issues with New Rental. Please advise?
I originally posted this in FW but almost immediately remembered the only assistance they provide over there is caustic "wit."
I am merely seeking advice. Statements along the lines of pack up and go aren't helpful; I'd hate to be sued for backing out of a contract....

First of all, I rarely ask FW for advice so please don't attack me if this doesn't belong in finance.
In March of this year I began renting a high rise apt in south Texas. In mid April I notice water damage in the top corner of my closet and black mold growing around it. I immediately alerted maintenance who initially responded by painting over the mold. After a call to the supervisor a section of the wall was removed, replaced and plastered over. I asked if any other measures were taken and the staff was unsure.
Last night while organizing said closet I noticed more black mold (albeit far less than the first incident) growing behind some baskets I use to sort clothing. There are no signs of water damage anywhere in the closet and this mold was nonexistent at the first incident. I have not yet contacted management regarding this.
I was recently treated for a respiratory infection, coughing, headache, etc. *This leads me to believe the first incident was not properly dealt with.* Until I saw the mold last night I assumed it was just a combination of being young and having too much fun.
I'm very concerned that there may be other black mold issues in the building that have never been properly dealt with (the building is at least 30 years old). It is entirely owned by a large management company and all units are rentals managed and maintained by them.
My father was a long time FW member (he introduced me) and a real estate attorney. I normally would ask for his advice in the matter but he recently passed. I was hoping FW could give me some advice. Please let me know if I need to include anymore information. I am unsure of what my next course of action should be given how reluctant management was to deal with the issue in the first place.
