GoDaddy vs Namecheap
Other than business practices, what are the major differences between GoDaddy and Namecheap as registrars? I have a domain expiring in a couple of days and I'm trying to decide whether I should just renew with GoDaddy or transfer to Namecheap. There was a thread here a few days ago about everyone recommending Namecheap so I was wondering what they do better than GoDaddy.Pricewise, a Namecheap transfer is about $10 and my renewal at GoDaddy comes out to about $9, so I don't really mind pricewise switching or staying. TIA! |

GoDaddy sucks a**. Their customer service is amongst the worst in the business and should you ever try to leave, they will hold your domain hostage for a minimum of 3 months. Been there, done that. Check out the webhostingtalk forums and you'll find plenty of other people with similar bad experiences at GD and few with good experiences. If namecheap doesn't do it for you, check our internet.bs
I have degrees in both animal behaviorism and psychology and have come to the conclusion that animals make a hell of a lot more sense than people.

OP, you clearly waited until the last minute to make this decision and as such you are going to pay the price. If you had asked us two months ago we would have told you to put a up a deal alert for namecheap and you could have snagged a sweet transfer offer for less than half that price.

I'm currently locked into a 5 year domain with GoDaddy. Unless name cheap will transfer both the domain and the length of time I have my domain, I'm not going to worry to much about it. I only have to change domain info once and a while, but when I talk with new clients, I try to steer them away from GoDaddy specifically because of how cumbersome it can be.

I've gone through the steps so far that Namecheap says "Domain transfer initiated" and it's completely out of my GoDaddy account. I hope it doesn't get stuck in domain limbo now... |

I think you misread my post. I got it down a dollar (from $10) to $9, so I still paid quite a bit. I'll look into snagging one of those nice deals for my other domain though.
