Pretty much what Straycat said. The chances of finding a Treasure Hunt are slim now a days with all the dealers. One of the reasons my dad has slowed down on his collecting, dealers killed it for him.

K-mart has hotwheel days or whatever where they hand out a full, unopened box, to each person that shows up for the event and that person gets first dibs on the contents of their box. Or something like that, I haven't gone with my dad in a few years it might be different now.

Also a few years back hotwheels did away with the codes on their boxes so the people "in the know" couldn't just open particular boxes because they knew before hand what was in it. There is probably some other way now to know what is in the boxes though.
