Pentium and and Celeron graphics are pretty much identical to I3T except that the former do not have Quicksync. If you're looking for an HTPC chip or an office/ multimedia chip, G530 is very hard to beat. |

I read this on Tom's Hardware (I'm not a huge fan of that site, but whatever) that made me want the i3 for the 3d blu-ray experience.
"Pentium G850 doesn't provide: #1. Intel® Quick Sync Video Intel® Quick Sync Video provides breakthrough media processing for incredibly fast editing and sharing. #2. Intel® InTru™ 3D 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors offer an outstanding Blu-Ray Stereo 3D experience in full high definition resolution (1080p) with HDMI 1.4. #3. Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) Increases the performance of Accelerated Floating Point and Vector Computing Intensive Applications with minimal power gains. " |

Folks, this really isn't worth the premium IMO. Intel simply took a regular i3 and reduced the clock multiplier, lowered the Vcore, and called it a "T" series CPU. And then pricing it higher than the non-T CPU. Silent PC community has been doing this with regular CPUs for years to keep their power consumption and fan noise down. I don't know if Intel cherry-picked silicon dies, but even if they did, it would only have marginally lowered Vcore and saved a few watts at best.
Celeron G540 is using the same architecture as the i3. As much as Intel tried to castrate the cache and feature sets on the Celeron, it still performs within 10%+/- of identically clocked i3, at half the price. Aside from Quick Sync, if you find some apps that run ok on the i3 but not the Celeron due to the 10% difference, you are still not giving yourself comfortable headroom on the i3. You would need to get something faster like the G850, for the same price. Anyway you look at it (except for Quick Sync), this is still not a good deal at this price point. This reminds me of Monster Cables. Even when there is a 50% off sale, it is still not considered a good deal. |
