AR 15 Owners and Enthusiasts Experience Sought
Have been wanting to add an AR to my collection. Seems like there is a plethora of makers/models out there which makes the waters muddy to me ;-) Searches tout the Colt as the way to go but it's above my fundage. Would like to know if this would be a good entry level. Not so much concerned about resale but would like to be able to upgrade when able. Also reads like there are some with inferior "chargers" I think it is?I hope links are allowed as I would appreciate feedback on this: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/...=291871137 Thanks to all and keep those gun deals coming! buy this
http://www.del-ton.com/Rifle_Kit_p/rkt104.htm and this http://www.aimsurplus.com/product...tem=F1SASL the lower receiver will have to go through your local gun shop. building it yourself is the way to go if cost is an issue. even if you buy the one from gunbroker, you will still have to pay the transfer fees. |

With ARs since they are all "milspec", they should all be the same specs and very similar quality. But of course they are not. I prefer Rock River and most people I know also like them. Length is not a factor of the size of the shooter, it is more the intended use for the AR. The AR is versatile. It can be outfitted for sniper/long range or close quarters. Most ARs that you will see will be shorter ones since this is most popular right now. Chrome lined is better but not an excuse not to clean the gun after every use. ARs are very susceptible to problems when dirty. Also the best place to upgrade is the trigger. Get a match grade trigger you will not regret it. E finita la cuccagna

DPMS or S&W
You can get a DPMS or similar (S&W) for under $600 that's quite functional with chromoly barrel, etc. After using it a bit you'll learn what mods you would like. I have a DPM Panther and regularly put 300 rds through it, enough that it's hard to see through the optic cause of the heat from the barrel. Still no FTF or FTE. Thanks! I am completely green in the AR field. I plan to get to the indoor range tomorrow and see about renting one to get some hands-on exposure. I am mainly a C&R fanatic and really enjoy the blow-backs and my SKS. Simple and solid. But I have this one empty spot in the safe that yearns to be filled and I'm thinking an AR would fit nicely :-) Thanks again!
