I signed up for charter a few days ago and today noticed there deals had changed so i was able to change just in time. I ordered Internet ONLY, i know it they past they offered this package for bundles only.

They are now offering:

Up to 30 Mbps – 10X faster than standard DSL and 5x faster than ATT U-Verse DSL
Simultaneously stream videos, download music and more without sacrificing Internet performance
Free Modem

Install is also now just 19.99, vs 49.99 before

Good deal considering the free modem has to be docsis 3.0.

If you are having trouble getting this offer, try calling: 1-888-438-2427. They helped me get this deal even when I had Charter already, but as always YMMV.

FREE MODEM is a Cisco DPC3010 [cisco.com]

They seem to have limited coverage for the service. Feel free to update the location/ZIP that you have tried and the results (please try and insert so it remains sorted):

As of 10/26/12, the deal is back alive, you need to enter your address and a "WEB ONLY" deal will show. Which is $29.99 per month and 19.99 installation.

So did you keep your U-Verse TV and get Charter Internet, or do you have just Internet service? I'm in a similar situation and am looking at other options since U-verse Internet is slowwwwww.
Nope, like a true SDer I canceled my TV portion ~2 years ago and get my TV over the air, streamed through sites like ESPN3/ABC.com/NBC.com/etc, quasi-legal streaming sites or bittorrent. We're saving almost $100/month just on not having cable TV.

I bill just went up to $57.99 and CSR thru Chat refused to do anything. Basically saying that $29.99 is for new customers to "Enjoy their service for a limited time", and I that I already "ENJOYED" their service, therefore they can now stick it up my @$$ .........
I haven't had Charter for ~3 years or so, but every time they raised my price I was *always* able to get them to lower it when I called. ALWAYS. Sure, it was a pain in the ass to call (and one of the reasons I switched to U-Verse in the first place since our rate was not a teaser-rate and yet it was still close to the discounted rate we were paying with Charter), and when they started playing their little game of raising my price every month or two it drove me nuts, but I've never had a problem calling them up and getting some sort of deal.

Worked with U-Verse as well, with them offering $10-15 off their stated rates just to keep me. The main problem with U-Verse is that a) it would have still been $8 more per month and b) the fastest speed they offer in my neighborhood is 18-down, 1.5-up. I don't care that much about the 18Mbps vs 30Mbps, but the 1.5Mbps upload speed *sucks*.

Dunno, maybe it's a symptom of competition? When we first moved here ~5.5 years ago Charter was offering 3/0.5 service. That was literally the fastest you could get, and they still wanted $40-45/month for it. Then AT&T came along and suddenly Charter's speeds have been increasing *and* they've been far more willing to deal....

Charter just came to do the install.

Old AT&T

New Charter

For $10 less per month than I was paying... Now just steeling myself for the inevitable phone calls with Charter in another 11.5 months.

Same here, coincided nicely with AT&T claiming my 12mo(?) promotional period that I negotiated a year ago was running out and that my bill was going from $40 up to $48/month for 12/1.5Mbps service. Checked Charter and saw the 30/4Mbps offer for $29.99 (just the internet, doesn't need to be bundled) and includes the lease on the modem for a year. After that, $45 plus I'm assuming $5 for the modem.

AT&T wouldn't deal (best they could offer was $38 for their 18/1.5Mbps) so pulled the trigger.

The one thing I'd note for Charter is that while they do offer low prices, you HAVE (!!!!!!!!) to keep on top of your bill because it can, and will, rise often for seemingly no reason. I used to have to call them every 6mo or every year to complain, and then at one point I noticed that they'd raised my price 4 times in 6 months between December and June, from $90/month to $155. One TV package "expired" and so they'd automatically moved me to an identical one for $5 more per month, this special expired, then another one, and I nearly had a heart attack when I opened my June bill and saw how expensive it was. Dropped them and went with U-Verse.

So just an FYI, keep an eye on that bill, people.
Thanks for the advice on billing, I will definitely keep an eye on the bill.

I'm lucky, my wife and I have different last names... Would certainly be easy to cancel in my name and re-up in hers. Cool

?

Beyond that I guess it depends on your location?
I have Charter and tried to get this for my sister, but that link returns "Charter services are not currently available at the address you entered." which is BS because I am on Charter right now!

Is there a Charter phone number she can call to just order internet without being sold a bundle?

So I ordered over the weekend using the brother's name, but these bastards won't let me schedule Installation until my account gets disconnected on Monday.

I called on Monday to schedule, and the CSR was so rude, telling me that I can't just disconnect and reconnect to get the lower price, and I need to wait 30 days. I told him to screw it, I'll just get Uverse.

Then he says since I'm using a different name, he can schedule for Friday....

So I'm without Internet for 5 days. (currently on WIFI from my rooted phone)

Update:
Finally came over and Installed with a new SB6121 modem ( same one I had, which BTW is on ebay as we speak...)

So in conclusion Charter wasted labor to cut service, install new service, provide a modem, and still have to give me the $29.99 pricing....... on my end I wasted $19.99 on new install, 5 days without Internet, and very upset that Charter made me go thru so much hassle.

Totally understand your feeling, i know many friends have to jump through all these hoops to get discount pricing again. Charter is probably not making much profit for 29.99 (or not making enough lol), so 1 year later it will jump back to 50. The thing is if they can lower the regular price to more competitive 35-40 range, I won't go thru all the hassle to get the discount rate... that's why i like Sonc.net 's Fusion so much, 1 fair price no BS, too bad their coverage is very limited.
I'm very happy with the speed, just hope the cap is higher, now it's 250GB, i stream and download lots of 720p HD show and movie, if I go for 1080, 250GB won't be enough, oh well can't complain too much for $30 no tax.

Unsuccessful with getting this deal. I spoke with retentions and they could only offer a triple play deal with the 30 Mbps for $119. Any tips on getting the $30 internet plan if you are a current customer?
