I signed up for charter a few days ago and today noticed there deals had changed so i was able to change just in time. I ordered Internet ONLY, i know it they past they offered this package for bundles only.

They are now offering:

Up to 30 Mbps – 10X faster than standard DSL and 5x faster than ATT U-Verse DSL
Simultaneously stream videos, download music and more without sacrificing Internet performance
Free Modem

Install is also now just 19.99, vs 49.99 before

Good deal considering the free modem has to be docsis 3.0.

If you are having trouble getting this offer, try calling: 1-888-438-2427. They helped me get this deal even when I had Charter already, but as always YMMV.

FREE MODEM is a Cisco DPC3010 [cisco.com]

They seem to have limited coverage for the service. Feel free to update the location/ZIP that you have tried and the results (please try and insert so it remains sorted):

As of 10/26/12, the deal is back alive, you need to enter your address and a "WEB ONLY" deal will show. Which is $29.99 per month and 19.99 installation.

Weird...I tried to pull up the other internet speeds on their website and it only shows bundles and the 30mbps for $29.99.

I wonder if they're trying to do away with internet-only service?

Signed up about 2 months ago and on chat right now to see if they'll work with me.

I called 1-888-438-2427. Its the number that is on our current bill. I live in Saint Louis the rep was from Minnesota.
I tried talking with retentions and even online chat - both no go. I just got Charter installed 2 days ago, called that number, and after 10 minutes they switched me over to the new promo and were very polite about it. Only thing is you HAVE to use there modem for easier customer support but they took care of the installation fee since I got it installed 2 days ago either way. TU and repped

Hey guys,

I'm also interested in cancelling my current service and getting this, don't believe I am under a contract. Please let us know if you were able to do this, I've been looking for a better internet deal for a while.

Thanks OP! I'll have to give this a try.

FYI - You can also get free EPIX movie streaming with this plan. It's kind of like Netflix streaming. If you have a Roku or Xbox 360 you can also stream via those devices.

A co-worker ordered the 30Mbps for $30. We had 15 Mbps for $45 since we dont bundle TV or phone. I called and asked if I could get the 30 for 30 and he said no problem. I then asked how much to keep our 15Mbps service which he then dropped our bill to $24.95/month. Took less than 5 min without having to haggle.

Plus you dont need a DOCIS 3.0 modem for this service, only for the 100Mbps service. If you ever need a modem you can go to your local office and ask for a used one (white box they call it) They had about 50 in a back room. Added it to our account for $19.99 saving the monthly modem fee.

As for a monthly cap... I use usenetserver and thecubenet pretty heavy without ever having an issue.

Hope this info can save others some money.

With the 30mbps package you will definitely want a DOCSIS 3.0 modem.... you'll be cutting yourself short by not having one.

There's a good chance you may never see the full 30mbps without a 3.0 modem. You definitely won't take advantage of powerboost. On a good night I can hit 70-80 mbps with powerboost. The boost doesn't last forever, but it definitely helps speed up my downloads.

i hate the comcast DATA CAP. maybe I should get RCN internet, their AD says no data cap and they now have 25 to 50 mbps packages too.

Can anyone familiar with Charter comment on how much extra in taxes/fees we could expect on the total bill?

It varies by state, it says so on the bill. For me nothing, the advertised flat price. They will try to sneak in insurance for your line, you'll probably want to cancel that...

Normal Usage Definition

Although it can vary considerably, the typical U.S. residential Internet customer consumes 15 - 20 GB worth of data on a monthly basis. This includes both downstream (e.g., watching a YouTube video) and upstream (e.g., sending email) usage.

The average is expected to change over time, as technology evolves and more bandwidth is required to provide a high quality user experience. For example, it takes more bandwidth to download a high-definition movie (8 GB) versus a standard-definition movie (2 GB). The usage thresholds defined within Charter's AUP greatly exceed current typical residential use and accommodate future growth.

To illustrate the available bandwidth within each package, the models below depict examples of normal activities a Charter Internet customer could perform, while remaining under the "No Excessive Use of Bandwidth" section of our AUP.

Lite and Express Packages – 100 GB Threshold

Send 25,000 emails at 20 kilobytes (KB) per email
Download 20 standard-definition movies at 2 GB per movie
Download 2,000 songs at 5 megabytes (MB) per song

Plus and Max (Grandfathered) Package – 250 GB Threshold

Send 25,000 emails at 20 KB per email
Download 30 standard-definition movies at 2 GB per movie
Download 15 high-definition movies at 8 GB per movie
Download 4,000 songs at 5 MB per song

Ultra100 – 500 GB Threshold

Send 40,000 emails at 20 KB per email
Download 40 standard-definition movies at 2 GB per movie
Download 30 high-definition movies at 8 GB per movie
Download 4,000 songs at 5 MB per song
Upload 8,000 high-definition digital pictures at 10 MB per picture
