The power consumption when idle is very low for both the Plextor M3 and the Samsung 830 in comparison with the Crucial M4. Given the fact that most of the time the drive is inactive, the idle power consumption is very important. When the drive is active the Samsung does use a lot of power in comparison to the Plextor M3 or the Crucial M4.

Plextor M3 less power than Samsung 830
Samsung 830 uses less power than Crucial M4

If you are putting this in a desktop, I would ignore the power consumption differences.

Only thing I know is that the company Plextor is known for very reliable products and this SSD with less than 1% failure rate. Combined with a 5 year warranty its seems like you're covered for a while. I would go for this if I hadn't just ordered a Samsung 830 laptop kit for 223.

plextor m3 has 512 mb buffer cache, 5 year warranty, TrueSpeed technology, faster write speed than Crucial m4, higher iops than crucial m4. Not sure about samsung 830.
