I think it's a good redemption. Amex MR's transfer partners almost universally charge YQ on their award tickets. Amex MR points could be transferred to Delta, generally no YQ charges just taxes like United, and if you are lucky enough to find availability, you might be able to use same number of MR points for a Delta flight as you would use United miles. Amex does transfer bonuses occasionally, but we have not seen one this year.

Many would say you are not getting the best value, only 1.8 cents per mile ($1500 ticket you are getting for free divided by 80,000 points). But those are typically the same people who have hundreds of thousands of miles and have no problem redeeming for business & first class.

Taxes are sorta high for a United award, but it is because you are flying out of the UK after a stopover, departure tax of about $125. I think you could save $30 if you stopped over on the way back instead of the way there, they charge the tax based on the length of the flight departing the UK.

my main advice is to price all of the legs of your trip separately to make sure you are getting a good deal. Since you can book one way awards now, if one leg of your trip is pretty cheap to buy then it might not be worth it to redeem miles. I try to get over 2 cents a mile.

Congrats on the approval! Make sure you do a few searches to see all of the things that qualify as "fees" for the $200 airline credit. Thanks for the info - already have a Amex business bonus so I won't qualify because of that, but it might be helpful for others.
