What a difference a day makes - after yesterday's Nexus announcement, who'd touch a Nook or Fire?

Well, the Nook Tablet does have a microsd slot. Hard to compare the Nook to the Nexus 7 when the Nook could be 16+64GB storage for a little over $200 and hacked to ICS while the Nexus 7 is $250 for 16GB and stuck there.

No GPS, no bluetooth, dual core vs.quad core, no FF camera. Half the apps from marketplace are "not compatible with your device".
I rather be stuck at 16GB and have all the above features. It is rumored that it may be possible to mount external storage to the Nexus7 via USB.

how can this deal considered slick? it's refurbished and sells like $30 less than a new one, and Google Nexus 7 is way better and priced at $199. booooo....

It's unconfirmed that it will support thumb drives. I swore I read it somewhere while looking for the nexus phone on google play website. Now I can only find rumors such as this:

That's a pretty dated issue.

Changing build.prop to mirror Motorola devices with the same hardware and memory fixes this for about 90% of the problem apks. Here, I'll make it even easier and give you the code to cut and paste.

It's true - the NT took a while to get going because the bootloader didn't get cracked until several months after it came out, and devs are still somewhat behind where they'd like to be on the ports even if CM7 is stable and the latest CM9 pretty close to there. Most noticeably, hardware video acceleration is something that would really make this a monster tablet.

Do I miss Bluetooth for a keyboard? Absolutely, and unlike the Nook Color there's no real hope that Bluetooth will ever get implemented because the chipset doesn't support it.

But even without hardware video acceleration - which we'll eventually have - this still plays 720p on one of if not the outright best screen for a 7" that's available. Unless you're a hardcore gamer who really needs all those cores or Skyper who wants a camera, the Nexus doesn't offer anything meaningful over this as it stands now, and the price differential on the 16 GB refurb tablet will save you enough to buy several 32 GB SDHCs or even a 64 GB micro SDXC card, which works if you reformat it.

If the Nexus had an SD card port, I'd have considered switching. But the combination of no confirmation of any external storage and what I'm expecting to be a very difficult root for a while for Jelly Bean means I'm happy to wait on Nexus pricing for another year. If I want free content, I buy a Kindle. If I want the neatest hardware, I buy the Nexus. But if I want the most functional 7" with the best bang for the buck, I buy a Nook tablet.

Does it require work to get functioning right? Darned straight, since it did take me some effort to switch to 11 GB of storage internally and 2 GB for apps, and the development continues. This isn't a tablet for non-technically oriented folks, but if you want to put the work in you'll be very well rewarded.

And lastly, $199 new is for the 8 GB, which I wouldn't touch as it's not a particularly friendly model to hack as most of the work is on the 16 GB. A third off of the price of the 16 GB is worth looking at.

Thanks & repped! I'm very interested in a Nook Color or Tablet, but am waiting for an even better deal, which I've seen before. A NEW Nook Tablet has been marked down by Barnes & Nobles itself (via it's ebay account), about a month ago I believe, to $149+FS (still need to add tax though). (Edit:8GB Nook Tablet was $149.) Still, I think this is a good deal since the Nook is discounted from it's MSRP price and a great buy for anyone who wants/needs one right now. I wondering if I'll see a $99 Nook Color soon though. Here's hoping.

Actually, that is incorrect. A new one, the 16GB model, is actually $249.

In all fairness, the $199 Nexus is an 8GB model, which is not comparing apples to apples.

I would gladly take a Nook Tablet, for the right price, but definitely would rather have the Nexus 7, but if you are going to make posts like this, please at least have your information in order. As it is, you are posting false info here, which makes your point null.
