I did this since GF already has my CC info for past used game purchases. So I didn't have any problems doing this, though I haven't tried the game yet. On my gaming PC I've already got 1 of practically every other game client installed, so why not 1 more? At least I know who GF is. I was confused by their "Direct2Drive" reference. Is that another name for the GF client or is that a separate service? I logged into the client with my normal GF password and that worked.

I personally have an issue with having to sign-up and proffer my personal info including credit card numbers for a free game download.

Oops. My bad. Your post makes more sense with GF = Game Fly instead of GF = Girl Friend.

I understand, and I would've had that problem too except GF already has my personal info and CC from past purchases, and they've been around long enough that I don't think they are a fly-by-night place trying to collect personal info. So I had nothing to lose.

Sorry, giving up my name, address, email, and a credit card number are NOT "free".

This type of deal should be listed as $0 price, since you are really *purchasing* this item for a $0 price, not any random internet user being able to obtain this item for "free".

In short, people without (or do not want to be required to divulge) a credit or debit card are NOT eligible for this "free" item.

That said, GameFly is a reputable online seller. They are the NetFlix of PC Games, basically. They have been around for quite a while and are moving into the online distribution space, although they are a bit late to the game (sorry). Wouldn't be surprised if there is a merger there with NetFlix in the future or a consolidation with either Steam or Origin/EA.

I am also glad this isn't similar to a "free" deal from PopCap or WildTangent, and this game is of the era back when you bought a game, you got the actual game and not a "lite" or "free-with-ads" crippleware version and it is the entire game, and does not require the purchase of "in-game" DLC or add-ons in order to actually get the entire game.

I have a virtual CC on file from my last purchase (expiration 1/2012) and it worked. GF already has my contact info so no biggie. As for using their client to download, maybe I'll do that via a VM...

Direct2Drive used to be one of the biggest digital download services competing with Steam, but they were recently acquired by GameFly. The client is actually not too intrusive as you don't need to run it in the background to launch your GameFly purchased games.

Any way to delete your info after the "purchase"?

linked with my american express prepaid and it did let me go through. gamefly has good deals occasionally anyway and is the best place to buy used games so i don't mind having an account.

It requires credit card info ... naahh..

I had an expired CC from a few years back still on file, went through fine. Maybe try expired giftcards or old CC #s?
