I have a Microcenter about 20 minutes away downtown, and like you said, for $35 it's tempting. I just see all these slick deals of $70 or so for 128GB drive, or the one yesterday of $190 for 360GBs, and I'm going to hold off and see what the 4th of July brings.
What sucks in a sense is originally I wasn't interested in an SSD. I have a Samsung Spinpoint F3 in my gaming rig and it's fine enough. SSD's were too expensive a luxury imo. Now that all these crazy prices on SSDs have been showing up, I'm leaning towards buying one. 128GB I figured was a good size. Well, with that $190 360GB deal I saw yesterday, now I'm wondering if I'm better off buying a larger drive like that, and using my Spinpoint in my next build. My gaming rig only plays games so 360Gb would be more than enough space. I say this "sucks" cuz I went from not looking to spend a dime, to probably spending $70-80, to now thinking why not just get the big one and spend $200. hahahaha, this damn site "sucks" if you know what I mean. hehehehe.... |

this seems like it'd be fun to play with in my HTPC though as the main drive to play around with... not convinced it would help with anything real, i don't turn off the PC, but it'd be fine to play with. ROFL...
tp4tissue "Gaming is gonna shift back to pc, due to steam type services,, AND not to mention really CHEAP hardware that's at least 4 times faster than xbox "LULZ zxcvb "This does not have a regular VGA connection. This will work with only HP monitors. |

I'm not holding my breath for a $35 120GB anytime soon. Though I wonder if $55ish isn't possible in the not too distant future. |

the thing with the larger drives is getting down to 0.50$/G is a lot more money... like the 360G, to get to 0.50$/G it would have to drop another 20$ (ie. 180$ for 360G). same for the 120G. where as this drive to get to 0.50$/G would only have to drop 5$ (ie. 30$ for 60G), a factor of 4. see what i mean

IMO, NO! Take a look around on the net, a majority of failed SSD forum posts and all are usually associated with OCZ. That said, these small ones could still be worth buying if you assume you'll have to eventually RMA it. The way I see it, a small SSD like this is pretty much only good for an OS drive...too small for storing anything on/being only drive for the computer. Provided you have another drive you can at least temporarily drop into it's place should it fail, and a disk image made once your system is set up the way you like where you can simply re-image a replacement drive rather then installing and updating everything from square one again, it is still worth doing. In other words if the drive fails, RMA the SSD, drop in and re-image a backup drive to pick back up right where you left off with minimal down time and no loss of anything important. Of course you may get lucky and have no issues at all with the SSD over time too. |
