Please prove that Bush never applied himself. He has a bachelors from Yale, an MBA from Harvard, was a state governor and the POTUS. Driving drunk could happen to anyone who drinks and drives. It's a dumb farking choice that gets made by people that are poor and unsuccessful as well as those rich and successful. Doesn't make him a druggie. And, as mentioned, he gave up alcohol completely in the mid-80s.

He reminds me of the tazmanian devil that guy. He comes in when our biggest problem was what to do with the (three?) trillion dollar surplus. 8 years later he leaves and we are 14 trillion in debt and boys and girls are coming home with missing legs and hooks for hands.

That isn't to say the democrats and other factors aren't to blame, but wtf?

You might eek out a little bit of credibility if your very next statement was to point out how Obama accumulated even more debt in 3 years than Bush did in 8 years. Then it might appear that you aren't just a partisan hack who sees Obama as the messiah and thinks Bush is to blame for everything.

But alas, you are just that--another partisan hack with no intellectual honesty.

Ask Hawk...he's the one who said that if you screw up, abuse substances, and don't apply yourself (he made no distinction between the three, as you do), then you can't possibly get ahead in the American system.

Bush is the perfect example of someone who succeeded despite failure. He slid through college, slid through the National Guard (AWOL), slid through his drug exams, was arrested for DUI, etc... Yet he managed to succeed. Why?

You have to realize the entire system is geared to give low income people and minorities a "step up".. Not saying it is fair, but that's the way it works.

Over the last 20 years or so, tuition and other college costs have gotten way out of control. It used to be a no-brainer to go to college if you had the ability/motivation to complete your degree. Now, college is so expensive and entry level jobs so scarce, that it's not necessarily a good decision to go to college. Basically, the universities want a bigger slice of the future income your daughter hopes to get for her degree than they did in the past.. it sucks for sure.
