help conf. laptop

Hello all sd users!!! i need help choosing a laptop. its been a while since i bought a computer and i do not understand all these cpu and gpu. last time i bought a computer it ws p4 in 2003. i am just confused not knowing what exactly i should be looking for in laptop. i am nt a gamer. i am strickly going to use laptop to watch movies on netflix and .avi files. these are my questions.
1. what kind of processor should i be looking for? is it worth getting i7 over other processors if i m just gonna surf web and watch movies?

2. does it matter what kind of gpu it has if i am not going to play games at all? does gpu make any diff in picture quality when streaming netflix or playing .avi files.

3. does it make any diff in picture quality if u hv 1080p or less when u streamin movies or surfing online or youtubing?

all 3 questions r pretty much on same topic. i also hv a 2 tb external hd so i m nt looking for too much space neither. i do need want 15.6 screen though i def do not want a slow laptop but just dont wanna waste more money on laptop if i dont need to. a backlit keyboard would be nice but frm wat i hv seen that only comes on higher end models.

Intel i3/i5 or AMD A6/A8 cpu will fit you well. Your cap should be around $300-550.
