OK deal,, but why the mods put this on FP baffles me. This has been cheaper numerous times, in the last month alone, not only at newegg but also amazon, search here, and also note its even described in the newegg comments, e.g. one dated 6/28 talks about it being $60 AR. And it looks like it was just $65 AR just yesterday at 1saleaday? (not sure if that is the same model, or if not, better or worse specs though ...)

This is not a FP deal. FP fail once again; this is happening WAY too often here. I used to be able to trust that anything on FP was probably a reliable low price, and I didn't have to do my own research. Especially when I see it is a deal posted by a mod, and promoted immediately to FP, with very few thumbs up. Now I trust FP status NOT AT ALL, & check everything myself. I can only conclude they are more motivated by referral income than saving us money. Grr.

It must be special settings that you have customized for the display of your front page of the site.

Here is what I see on FP. This deal is not there.

OK, I see it -- under "Preferences" I have "Flash Storage" marked to "like." When I move it back to neutral, the line disappears from my frontpage listing.

Hmm, when I set these preferences, I had no idea that it would be sticking things on my FP even though you guys had not marked them as such. It might explain why it seems to me like there have been so many pretty lame FP deals recently -- I think the fact that they are in categories that I am interested in only makes it more obvious that they are merely average deals showing up on the FP. These "preferences" settings may work well for some, but I think I'm going to reset all mine back to neutral (with perhaps a few "dislikes" only), hopefully that will lead to less frustration for me about what is appearing on my FP.

My cynical side says manufacturers are betting that most people won't bother with the hassle for a $10 or $5 rebate. Particularly when the rebate is in the form of a pre-paid debit card.

Vendors get to advertise the rebate. Manufacturers likely won't have to pay it. Only the customer loses.

I think they do this so those who are in charge of purchasing this stuff for a larger company can personally file and collect the rebate (our IT guy did that all the time). For instance the guy working in IT who needs to upgrade 50 computers next month will be more inclined to get this brand and potentially pocket $500.
