Thread Details

Hi

I've been with ATT for 4+ years and have always been taking advantage of their promotions. I had the residential 3 Mbps dry-loop for $16.95 for 12 months that expired in May '12. They jumped my price from $16.95 to $43.00 - I called them in May and they didn't have anything good to offer.

Tried calling them again yesterday @ 1-877-377-0415 and spoke to the CSR, who said that the July offer was to get 6 Mbps for 1/2 off their regular price of $43.00. So all in all $21.50 for 6 months. I said that I wasn't sure I wanted to sign up for a 6 month special, where I would have to call back in and check back in 6 months what other promotions exist for customers like me. The CSR put me on hold, and said that she would have to go and speak to her manager, and VOILA ! starting July she hooked me up for the 6 Mbps for a 12 month period after which it would increase to the regular $43 (however, considering we are close to the July 4th holiday, I was told that they always have some kind of special around that time of the year).

Being a SD'er for sooo many years, I took my chances and asked her - "Hey, what about my past 2 months where I had to pay $43 for my 3 Mbps?". She was able to able to waive that amount to $21.50 as well (credit forward). So all in all 26 minutes of stayiong on the phone and $21.50 x 13 months savings - PRICELESS ...........

Thought this could be helpful for other ATT users out there.....as she said this was the July promotion.......so call up and post your success or YMMV stories........

I had very unpleasant experience with AT&T. My parent's contract expired two months ago and I kept calling to seek for better price (they charged $38/month for 3Mbps speed, ridiculous!). I was told by Rep that the only offer available was same price with double speed which is 6Mbps. Fortunately, I caught up the post on SD last week that Charter is currently offering $30/Month for 30Mbps with 19.99 installation fee and no contract required. No doubt I jumped on immediately.

I've been paying $19.99 for Direct Elite (no phone line) for the last 2 years. I originally signed up for it for $19.99 for one year then when the year was up they started charging $40-something. I called in to customer service and asked why it more than doubled, they said the promotion was for only a year. I told them I was happy with the service and was wondering if they could put me back on that promotion for another year. The guy said he couldn't do a promotion but could just change the price to $19.99.

I think it's a good deal, slightly more than dial up and on par with what some cable companies offer and for a fraction of the price.

Ask for it to be free. I did that years back. I said it was the only thing holding me back from signing up. Been 2 years now happy.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried doing that and was shot down. No go. However I was told that I can get any other service from them, like home phone or cable and then they can give me a $100 rebate gift card to recover the modem cost. But I just want basic internet at the moment, so this option is not feasible for me.

Another the csr told me is to get my own DSL modem for cheap somewhere else. I hv a frnd who wants to give her uVerse internet gateway (wireless plus modem)....will this work with DSL?

Sign up for uverse then. Uverse is dsl in essence. Its just fiber optics upto your location then a phone line to your house. I have uverse but both are essentially the same. In fact my area no longer has "att dsl" and everything has switched over to uverse. They are forcing everyone on "att dsl" to switch to uverse.

There is no uverse in my area (Winston Salem). Otherwise I would have happily gone with uverse. I hv no choice but at&t DSL 6 mbps max or time warner cable

I've had time warner off and on for 15 years (i've moved out of tw areas and then into new ones). They have been absolutely stellar. If you are a new customer the offers are as follows:

10/1 Mbit - $29.99 for a year (normal)
20/2 Mbit - $49.99 for a year (turbo)
30/5 Mbit - $59.99 for a year (extreme)
50/5 Mbit - $79.99 for a year (wideband)

They get really horrible reviews on yelp but I've pretty much loved them. I once had my service go out for 2 straight days a couple of years back but calling into tech support I was told straight up what the problem was (area switch needed replacing) and what the ETA was. I was only offered a refund of the days of downtime which was only about $4 but I really appreciated that they were completely upfront about the problem and the fix.

Got this same deal three weeks ago when my price went from $19.99 to 43.00. Took getting to cancellation rep to get it. Credited my $43 month the difference as well, so technically its 7 months at $21.50. Original rep was pushing Uverse at me as well with a rebate of installation cost, problem for me would be new equipment and a new investment in network storage in replacing my DSL router which has built in NAS capability.

I am in zipcode 27127. TWC offering $34.99 for 10mbps + $2.50 monthly modem fee + $,37 installation fee.

At&t is offering $19.99 n$100 modem fee. These are the only 2 option for us.
