Insurance claim in this situation

I need to get my car repaired. This repair is needed for none of my fault. I have no past claim with my insurance company in last 8-10 years. Now situation is this..

Shop 1 has lower estimate with 3 weeks turn-around time. (Here I need to have my own rental car arrangements)

Shop 2 has 20% more on estimate with shorter turn around time. Shop 2 also offers loaner car while my car is in repair.

Keeping future insurance premium in mind where should I take the car for repair? Shop 1 or Shop 2? Both are insurance company listed repair shop.

File against the insurance of the person who is at fault, including them paying for a rental car till yours is fixed, and go to whichever shop will do a better job.

that's irrelevant.

Because if it's someone elses fault you file against their insurance. Which is required to make you whole. Including providing you with a rental car until yours works again.

Knightshade L3: Novice Member sinceSep 2009 Posts289 Reputation 140 Followers 0 + Give Rep	Ok, then his own uninsured motorist coverage would cover it- and it's illegal (in most states anyway, I imagine there might be weird exceptions) for a claim that isn't your fault, which is what that coverage covers, to raise your premiums... and it's there to pay for what the other guys insurance would cover if he had any- including a rental car.

I am not sure how should I proceed to get rental car coverage from other person's ,who hit my car from the back, insurance company. Suggestion are Wel-Come. Thanks

You shouldn't even be speaking to your insurance company at all, let alone filing a claim.

You contact the at-fault persons company and inform them their customer hit you and you want them to fix your car and provide a rental car to you. Entirely on the other guys policy.

Let his premiums go up, not yours.

Only if his company won't deal with you do you talk to your agent, and only then for him to file against the other guys policy, not yours.

When we've had people damage our cars over the years, we always go thru our own agent and let them deal with the other person/insurance company. Our premiums have never gone up because of this (and why would they - we weren't at fault and the other person had insurance). I can only go by my own experience (we have State Farm) but we've had excellent customer service with our agent/claims dept.

Huh?

What part of my advice was incorrect?

You call his insurance company and tell them you have a claim against their policy holder.

if they won't deal reasonably with you THEN you can call your own agent and ask him to act on your behalf. But why involve a 3rd company and yet another person if you don't need to?

I've been through this both ways. In 2 cases the at-fault guys insurance took care of everything with no hassle whatsoever and I never even spoke to my own agent.

In a 3rd case they dragged their feet about things so I notified my agent and he resolved it.

I suppose if you're simply uncomfortable talking to an insurance company at all you could bring your agent in every time, but seems like extra hassle and extra people you don't need if the at-fault partys insurance is good to work with.

My remark about premiums going up (his not yours) was in regards to the fact you would file your claim against his insurance, not your own, regardless of if you or your own agent needed to do so.
