What is your free time worth? I usually assume $50 hour when I am trying to figure out whether I should waste my time on a deal, fixing something up to sell, research prices, look for a coupon, etc. Will you spend 12 hours in line just to get a TV at 40% off saving $200?...For me that is 8 hours wasted ($400) Thoughts? |

But i guess if it is an item that keeps you happy, and you wouldnt have gotten it if not for the deal, then there is the tradeoff. Last edited by ryanmw2002; 07-03-2012 at 02:06 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I don't mind clipping coupons, and I can do it while I'm doing something else, but since I'm not "extreme" about it, I probably get a fairly low return for the amount of time I spend on it. When it comes to automotive work, if it's just a hose or thermostat or something simple, and the weather is nice, I'll do it myself. If it's a PITA (replacing a heater core in a newer car, for example) or hot/cold out, I'd rather just pay someone else to do it. |

For example, had to replace the ECM in my car. I really can't do that myself and it's a dealer-only repair. Fortunately, the labor was the cheap part. It was the $2400 part that hurt the most there. |

I also agree about what I'm spending my time on... might be a different dollar value for a commute, shopping, etc. I'll spend a ton of time researching something like a vacation, but I enjoy it, so I don't have to save much for it to be worthwhile. For posting on SD, I value my time at one MILLION dollars.

![]() To a single mom who doesn't have the money to fix something my husband and I are able to, it's priceless. To a person who cannot resolve a problem, that I am able to for free, it's priceless. To help someone who needs something and can't procure it on their own for whatever reason, and I'm able to, it's priceless. Ever hear of "pay it forward" ![]() See not everything is measured in dollars and cents ![]() Somethings are measured in other means, and it's simple "priceless" ![]() Some day you'll realize it's not material things that make the world go round, but good friends, good allies, and people who "care", and not the almighty dollar that will find you saying wow...just...wow...I can't believe that just happened to me of all people...and someone who barely knows me did that for me...when that happens to you...you'll understand ![]() If you feel you are wasting your hours vs dollars - you are doing something wrong with your life, imho. ~ Everyone is gifted - but some people never open their package ~ ~ You were born an original.
