I had the same raise issue. If you are feeling adventurous, you can try the DIY fix (remove back cover and tighten the screws). It seems to be working for me - my "mushy" left side is now flat with the edge and there is no more screen distortion when I press on it. Just hoping that it maintains... this tablet is too fun to lose for a couple weeks!

I'm pretty close to their RMA center and it would only take 1 day to get there so it's not a huge loss for me. I just feel like I should try to get a good one now instead of dealing with Asus later on. Been reading about how people say Asus sometimes makes you pay for the repairs when it's clearly not their fault. And I'm pretty clumsy so I don't want to cause any damage to the device that would cause it to go out of warranty, especially with these issues.

Also, I find there aren't any games that I want to play on it so it's mostly for reading and watching videos so I can live without that for a week. Speaking of games, I connected a wireless XBox360 controller to it with an OTG USB cable and the Windows wireless adapter, but the analog stick calibration is messed up unless you Root your device and modify some files. But a PS3 controller via Mini-USB cable worked perfectly.

You should just go a head and root it. PS3 controller through bluetooth works flawlessly

As soon as I can get one that has no problems I'll start figuring out how to unlock and root my device. I really want to try StickMount and maybe check out CM10 when that gets more mature.

Any way to back up apps and their data before unlocking the bootloader and wiping out everything?

I tried a test with "App Backup & Restore" with one app and the data wasn't restored. AFAIK Titanium requires root and isn't an option before unlocking and rooting.

I'd also be interested in what method you used. There are a few alternatives on XDA.

Let's just all hope that these Nexus 7s are from a new, improved batch with no defects because that shipping back and waiting game is tedious and annoying. I hope you guys post on whether or not you see any issues with yours when it comes.

It looks like this Root toolkit lets you backup your data before you unlock and root. I haven't tried it myself though since I haven't bothered to root yet.

Yeah I'm not sure about the backing up because I rooted my Nexus 7 the first day I got it. I used this method: http://forums.androidcentral.com/...ablet.html

Worked really well except the SU push didn't work so I had to move the SU zip to the Nexus through the computer and then reboot into clockwork and then flash SU.

Did you guys set up google wallet to get your $10?
