SSD Boot Drive: OCZ Vertex 3 (Sandforce) vs Crucial RealSSD c300 (Marvell)
Hi guys and Gals,I was hoping for some help. I have been piecing together a water cooled gaming rig as budget and time allow for almost a year now. Last April I grabbed the Crucial RealSSD C300 [newegg.com] as the boot drive, thinking I'll use a seperate 1TB spinning platter drive for media storage, leaving the SSD for programs and OS. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when there was the FP deal for the OCZ Vertex 3 [newegg.com], which I grabbed as well, thinking it could be bound for a laptop or something... Well, I'm coming to wonder which is the better one for my hopefully soon to be completed gaming rig. Here's my breakdown so far. CAPACITY OCZ - 120GB Crucial- 128GB Interface OCZ - Sata III Crucial - Sata III Read/Write OCZ Read: 550mb/s OCZ Write: 500mb/s Crucial Read: 355mb/s Crucial Write: 140 mb/s Controller OCZ -Sandforce Crucial - Marvell I stopped right there. It seems the OCZ Vertex 3 is much better, it's just hard to swallow since the Crucial cost twice as much a year ago. I checked out TOm's hardware and found this roundup Ten 60 GB SandForce-Based Boot Drives, Rounded-Up [tomshardware.com] it mentions the OCZ but not the crucial model I have, just the new m4 series. Any opinions? Not looking to buy yet a third SSD, trying to figure out which of these is better. Leaning heavily towards the OCZ Vertex 3.. Thanks
