the rust spots in those pictures are negligible.
i was raised on villager steel cutlery - big vegetable knives made from slabs of steel. they were oiled mostly through contact with meat fats, handwashed with dishwashing soap, and rack dried.
rust spots developed, sure. before using, we'd give them a quick scrub under hot water. any remaining rust was not a problem - just a little extra iron in the diet. it's not as if they were crumbling or covered in that stuff, just a few spots here and there.

these are working knives - and if i recall correctly even the best chefs often use these types of high carbon low cost knives (although probably not these as they are serrated). they go through them quickly, of course - but these knives are preferred for their ease of sharpening and for their low cost as you can quickly replace one with another just like it.

i just received my set in the mail and i'm happy with it. i have no illusions about how great they are - to me they are working knives that come with a nice block.
