Adding Tomato to a Linksys WRT610N ver. 2

BudgetBargainer 381 380 July 6, 2012 at 05:51 PM
I bought this router when it was on sale a little while ago and heard mention of using Tomato with it...but I honestly have no idea what Tomato is and what it would do for me. Does anyone know some good places where I can figure out how to install the thing for this particular router or mind a quick tutorial of sorts?

Thanks in advance look around

Tomato Link [tomatousb.org]

Use link above to get started...your router is listed under Compatibility/Build Types [tomatousb.org] as an R2 CPU, K26 compatible - all build types. That means, on the download page [tomatousb.org], use Kernel 2.6 (experimental) for MIPSR2 Routers...pick the version that fits your needs (build types link above) - but probably either Ext or VPN will be your choice.

They have some tutorials on their website for installations. Just check them out and read up on it there; or, just google it...it's pretty straitforward, so try not to worry too much about it.

Tomato USB is your basic Tomato firmware with USB router compatibility. Additionally, you can use mod versions [tomatousb.org] that you might have heard tossed around ("Toastman", "Shibby", etc.) - but if you're just figuring out how to install Tomato right now, I'm guessing you don't have a need for any additional stuff.

Congrats on updating to a good/useful firmware for your router!
