How to clean burn marks in a microwave We've tried oxi magic, ceramic stove top cleaner, and magic eraser on it. Still have scorch marks in it. Anyone have any suggestions on getting them out? Arson and new microwave are not answers BTW. The Great Experiment is over. |

Depending on what it's made of, I like Bar Keepers Friend (powdered version) for tough jobs. Edit: I see it's not the plate that is scorched but the inside of the microwave. Sorry about that! I would try some Bar Keeper's Friend...good luck! Looks like this: http://www.drugstore.com/products...ram=284235 Last edited by KPS; 07-07-2012 at 01:42 PM.. |

![]() Barkeeper's friend is my go-to when all else fails and it has yet to disappoint. I just used it the other day to clean dye stains out of my bathtub (left a pair of new bike shorts hanging there to dry after a ride in the rain.. didn't realize they'd bleed). It comes in both liquid and powder form... the liquid is better for things that can't tolerate any amount of abrasion (ie: I use it on my glass-top stove). They're both awesome but the powder seems to be a stronger cleaning agent so I'd go with that if you can find it. I've bought both varieties at Walmart. If the plastic is actually burned and discolored you might be out of luck but if it's just a surface scorch this stuff should do the trick. Good luck.

Use regular lead-free white acrylic enamel or urethane paint (not latex paint -- not good in moisture) with non-toxic titanium oxide pigment. Virtually all white paint made in the past 30 years is made with titanium oxide pigment. There is a paint mad especially for painting microwave interiors, including the part above the mica cover, but it's not necessary. Microwave frequencies are way too low for lead oxide pigment to shield agianst its radiation better than any other metallic pigment -- you're thinking of x-rays and gamma rays,, and actually a lot of pure metal in paint would probably cause the microwaves to heat it up. I would not try any harsh chemicals if the microwave interior is plastic because they could weaken the plastic and eventually make it crack. However a crack won't cause microwave leakage because there's steel liner behind the plastic. But if the interior is porcelain-coated steel, try bleach, peroxide, or oxygenated cleaners overnight to remove the stain. What Kristin said about Barkeeper's Friend cleanser -- you don't even have to scrub for it to work sometimes because it contains oxalic acid. I don't understand why anybody would use a microwave without a turntable that was already in place. And even if he didn't, wouldn't the dish that everybody puts under food in the microwave catch most of the liquid? Last edited by larrymoencurly; 07-07-2012 at 02:55 PM.. |

![]() TS, if you use Barkeepers Friend, be sure to wipe down the microwave thoroughly before you use it again, Edit: It has oxalic acid in it. I would still wipe it down pretty good before putting food in it. Last edited by Zoe Moon; 07-07-2012 at 04:52 PM.. Happiness and depression are both feelings, just like joy and anger. It's not feelings that give us problems. It's what we do with them that makes the difference.

DH did the same thing . . . and he is NOT 11. I tried EVERYTHING to get the burn marks and the smell out. 6 months later the "burnt smell" is gone (finally) but the marks remain. Considering this was a new $600 microwave, I wasn't up for purchasing another one. Sadly, I have learned to live with it. Let me know if you find any great solutions.
