Where to sell a used Anheuser-Busch keg?

NotRonSwanson 1,460 1,487 July 8, 2012 at 02:03 PM
Hey all,

Was walking home the other night and noticed a giant pile of furniture and other bulk items ready for trash pickup, including an Anheuser-Busch keg. I decided it might be worth a few bucks if I sold it or offered it back to a distributer...or worst case, would make a great end table. I know some scrap yards don't even both with kegs due to theft and other reasons, but I was wondering, does anyone have any experience trying to sell a keg?

Its ~30lbs of stainless steel (not aluminum as far as I can tell) , so the scrap value is pretty minimal as far as I can tell.

Any advice is appreciated!
-Joe

You just linked me to an article about an exploding keg...nothing to do with them being stolen.

Also, there are many legitimate ways to acquire a used keg (unclaimed freight/storage containers, closed down bars/breweries, and some beer distributers will sell them straight to you).

I have no idea about the path this keg has been on, and if it was stolen or not. The question is more along the lines of whether or not a distributer will buy it back...otherwise this thing was on its way to the recycling plant either way.

You will find some interest on ebay or Craigslist for sure.

Try on a homebrewers forum. These kegs are easily converted to be used in all-grain brewing.

Definitely Craigslist, though I have also seen them for sale on E-bay. In our area (Southern California) they run around $30 on Craigslist.

Would a place that sells them not give you a deposit credit for them?

You need to have proof of purchase in order to get your deposit back, at least where I get my kegs.

Barcode on the keg matching receipt, mainly so people don't steal kegs and get deposits.
