For those of us that dont own a bunch of DVDs but collect BDs...

There has been a kiosk at WalMart for the last few weeks that doesnt make much since but works well with this Best Buy deal. For $9.96 you get a shrink wrapped BD in its jewel case and a shrink wrapped DVD in its jewel case and two $2 off Disc to Digital coupons all in the same bubble pack.

So, I picked up Clash of the Titans which not only included the complete DVD but the BD package also included the DVD version so I got two DVDs, one BD and converted The Matrix and Reloaded to digital for $9.96 and now have a complete DVD to trade for my $5 Best Buy coupon.

seems like it's any DVD that you would purchase. I'm wondering if they check the condition of the discs. I don't have any damaged ones but I wonder if they accept very scratched ones that no longer play. What do they do with the traded in discs? Does Best Buy sell used DVDs somewhere or are these getting recycled at a facility?

what confuses me is the recycling receipt. Do they give you the coupon AND the recycling receipt? Also, I didn't notice before but it says 5 coupons per trip. So if you plan to buy more than 5 movies doing this, you'll probably have to split this up.

It also says that you are unable to get back your turned-in DVD once you get the coupon for it. How long are the coupons valid for? Does the coupon expire a certain number of days after you turn in the DVD and you have until 8/11 to turn in a DVD to receive a coupon? Or do all the coupons expire on 8/11 regardless of when you turn in the DVD? Or do you have to use the coupon immediately?

edit: I may have found the answers to a couple of my questions after reading this person's complaint in the Best Buy forums

Seems like you aren't required to use the coupon the same day you obtain it. It also appears that they give you two things, a receipt and the coupon itself. This seems stupid since Best Buy is the only store printing off this receipt. It seems that the coupon itself should be the recycling receipt.

This sale has always been dubbed the YMMV Sale. each store seems to do things a bit differently. Most don't really care as long as the disc isn't destroyed while some are much pickier about general condition. Some clerks don't even look at the disc. By all reports the discs are sent to a recycling center where the discs are ground up, separated into components and used to make other things from the synthetics (roads, ground mulch, ???). I've never heard anyone even suggest these were being sold on Used DVD markets and some employees have been fired after being caught skimming discs for personal use or I guess reselling to used DVD stores or on Ebay.

When you turn the discs in most stores give you a coupon with a Receipt stapled to it. When you redeem, the the clerk is supposed to check the receipt to make sure there was a return. This should prevent someone from just taking a stack of coupons (or making copies) and using them illegally.

The coupons expire the last day of the sale. Some stores insist you are supposed to use the coupons immediately, but once the coupon/receipt has been issued there's no way for them to stop you from leaving and going to another store or coming back later.

Some stores don't even issue coupons and just have a master code at CSR where you bring your Bluray purchases and DVDs for a direct exchange. If you turn in your DVD you probably won't get it back if you decide there isn't anything you want which is why many people shop for the blurays first and then exchange their DVD (have them tagged at the reception deck and carry them around the store or just leave them in the car and only get them when ready for purchase.

1) For movies that come with 2 DVDs (1 movie, 1 special features), do I have to have the special features disc too or is the first disc w/ the movie enough?

2) Do I have to have the insert booklets from inside the box or is case + dvd enough?

3) The promo description states "Markdown taken from original price." Does that mean that a movie that is regularly $24.99 but on sale for $14.99 this week will end up costing $19.99 or $9.99 after the coupon?
