To compare the two side by side is deceptive and ridiculous. Yes, I agree that the lens MAKES the picture, the glass is always more important than the camera body. That's a fact. But what the writer doesn't get is that there's a vastly different market for those 2 lenses. The L lens is SEVEN TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE.

That's like saying, "don't get a Ford Focus for $22,000, get an Aston Martin for $154,000. It handles way better and you will appreciate the high end features!" Well, yeah but who is shopping around for a sub-$200 lens and says "let me get a $1300 lens instead". No one in the market for one would consider the other. It's a stupid comparison. Look, one day you will upgrade to the $1249 lens and you will love it. You will think upon the 55-250 days and think to yourself "how did I ever use that garbage?" But it's SEVEN TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE.

Yeah, no kidding dude! Look, here's my advice: this 55-250 lens is really good for the price. And if you're just starting the hobby, I don't recommend you drop a ton of cash on top tier anything. Start small and practice. Are the more expensive lenses "worth it"? Yes definitely. The difference is night and day. But the cheap lenses are enough to learn the hobby, work on photography skills like composition. Figure out how to use aperture effectively to control your depth of field. When you get better and better, you will eventually outgrow your cheap lenses. Sell 'em on eBay and THEN move up to the big boy lenses. To compare $200 lenses specifically made for inexpensive crop sensor cameras to professional grade $1300 lenses tailor made for expensive pro level full frame cameras is just stupid!
