Mousetrap bait that won't attract birds?

I have rock walls on my vegetable garden and the problem is that mice love living in the walls.
I used a mixture of peanut butter, bread crums and small pices of sausage on the mouse traps and that seems to work well on the mice (or at least weeds out all the dumb/careless ones).
The problem is that on the very first day I got 2 small birds and I would prefer not to.
What would be a good bait that would work on mice but not attract birds?

you can buy something for the mice at home depot that will not attract birds.

You mean mouse/rodent traps or bait specifically?
I got a bunch of mousetraps FAR from menards (I think it was last fall), so I would like to use the traps, but with a bait that won't attract birds.

2. Buy a snake

3. Put poison in the holes of the rock wall, I doubt the birds are crawling in there.

1. Cats are free.
2. I found a small dead snake on top of one of the rock walls. I suspect the neighbor's cat. (The friendliest cat in the world, but a bloodthirsty killer towards anything and everything smaller than itself. Yes, I know, that's just the nature of most cats. I haven't seen any dead mice. Last year one morning there was a dead mouse and a dead bird laying side by side. If people were to shrink by, say a factor of 10X, that cat would "love" people even more than now. )
3. Can't put poison even close to my vegetable garde.
4. That's $6 Not slick compared to free traps.

One was alive but clearly braindamaged, so I had to kill it. The other one I found dead, but it had gotten trapped by it's legs, so more than likely it did not die instantly.

There clearly was nothing that could have been done for the one that was brain damaged. Killing it was the right thing to do. (Some of my friends feel the same way about liberals, but that's a separate discussion. On the other hand, I sometimes love liberals.)
