Looking for an FM Transmitter for my mp3 player
Looking for an FM Transmitter for my Sony Walkman mp3 player to use in my car (3.5mm audio cord connection). I want one that works well and i don't need it to have an SD card slot, nor USB. A digital screen channel finder is a plus but not necessary. Also, I'd prefer it to be powered by my cars "power socket"(?... cigarette lighter looking outlet) but if cheap enough i could use batteries. No dedicated remote necessary either. Thanks for any help. |

DX has them for less than $10 shipped from China. If you order less than ~$15, your order may take ~3 weeks.

What car do you have (year, model, and trim), and is it the factory stereo? If so, Honestly, an FM transmitter is the worst way to go about it, as the audio quality is horrendous, especially with the factory stereo and speakers, as you have to drive them into distortion to get any reasonable volume. USB stereos are so cheap these days that it's just easier to get those, and they also improve the sound quality of your factory speakers. Many cars have capability to at least add an AUX in connection, which is 10 times better.

And would a USB stereo just use a flash drive instead of my mp3 player? Also, how much for a good deal on one of those? |

You will need installation parts, but $100 is a solid budget for great sound if you really need to stay budget. Once you start getting more expensive, you don't get better sound, just more tuning and equalization options, plus more features. I recommend buying from Crutchfield, which is one of the biggest car stereo sites around. The advantage of them is that they're an authorized dealer, and if you buy a radio that is $120 or more, then you get free installation gear, which is the adapter to make the radio fit inside of your dashboard plus the wiring harness adapter, so that you don't have to cut up your factory harness. You end up getting the better features of the $120 radio, PLUS you don't have to pay for installation gear. Some $120 radios that I found: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1304...ml?tp=5684 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113K...ml?tp=5684 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105K...ml?tp=5684 Here are all the receivers, in case you want more features like Bluetooth: http://www.crutchfield.com/g_300/...e=110-1200 Going up to $120, as you see, adds HD radio. HD radio is clearer than regular FM radio, and it also tells you the artist and name of the songs! They're all good, so just go with the one that you think looks the best. If you want the absolute cheapest you can get, go for this: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH..._e_title_2 You lose the multi-color selector, HD radio, more preouts for future stereo builds, but you still get the same overall sound quality as any newer Pioneer. You just have to buy these adapters: For the dash fitment: http://www.amazon.com/Metra-99-78...c+dash+kit For the wiring: http://www.amazon.com/Metra-70-17...ng+harness You'd be at sub-$100 (about $95) For installing the radio, you get full instructions and free tech support from Crutchfield, but here are the instructions as well, so that you can see what you'd be getting into: 1. First, you have to combine the wiring harness that came with your head unit and the one that you bought for your car: First 4 minutes of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8p4GBzBjU8 http://www.installdr.com/TechDocs/999009.asp You can go buy a $5-$8 combination crimper/stripper from Radio Shack or Walmart, plus those butt connectors, just get the ones small enough for 20 or 22 gauge wiring. They are usually available as universal ones that work on 16-22 gauge wiring, and just fold the wire over on itself. Second, remove the factory stereo: http://www.7thgenhonda.com/forum/...hp?t=16434 Then, use the dash adapter kit to screw your new headunit in, and reassemble! Very easy to do on your own, will take less than 2 hours your first time. Or, sometimes at Best Buy, Car Toys, etc. during certain sales you can get good deals, and they'll do free installation. I just installed another new stereo two weeks ago in the Accord, to upgrade from my first aftermarket stereo to a newer one that has HD radio, Bluetooth (you can do phone calls AND you can stream music or Pandora from any smartphone!), and Pandora control. |
