I'm tempted to grab this deal as my mom needs a new PC and I was thinking of getting a second x-box for the house but I don''t want to me limited to 4GB nor do I want to sell it aftermarket on CL or ebay.

Very easy, wait for a sale at Gamestop and pop in a secondary hard drive. I picked up two 20 gig models for my extenders and it only ran me $20 if I remember correctly.

Is all you need an EDU address? My mother works for College and there for has an EDU address will that work?

OK - My patience finally paid off this afternoon.

XPS 8500 w/ 3rd Gen i7, 1TB HD, 8GB RAM, and a Radeon 7570 1GB GPU. Dell Outlet New (not refurb or scratch-n-dent). Was $679, but CSR offered 20% off even without the Dell Credit offer. I wanted to add something to bring it up to $599 so I could get the AMEX discount, but he said the only thing he could add that would show up on the same invoice was another year of warranty, which is $99 anyway. Plus, AMEX might balk since it's outlet and purchased over the phone instead of dell.com. The 20% is much better than $100 anyway, so I'm happy.

You would probably need a better graphics card since the integrated HD6450 meanwhile good for everyday use doesn't have enough juice to play intensive games. Also, depending on the power needs of the graphics card you buy you may need to upgrade the PSU too. (I think there is a nice one on FP that is 20 AR)

USB 3.0 upgrades are cheap for desktops. They're less than 15 bucks and can be installed in the PCI expansion slot. Doubt you'll regret not having USB 3.0 though. I mean, it's nice to have but not vital.

So what am I looking at cost wise if I want to get a GPU thats a bit futureproof? I'm not looking for something crazy awesome but just something good enough for the next few years.
