Does anyone know a good LAN/Cable Tester for around $200?
Looking for a cable tester with LCD to show exact problem areas (mismatch, what pairs aren't working etc - distance to a problem would be a PLUS but is not crucial).I need to test regular ethernet cables and regular coax video cables. I am really new to this and am looking to buy it for a friend. I was hoping to spend somewhere around $200. Thanks for any help even if you can just point me in the right direction |

Just the cheapest one I'm aware of. I've never used / seen this specific device. Another angle is to use utilities for the NIC in your laptop if they support similar functionality. Last edited by jkee; 07-11-2012 at 12:19 PM.. |

I've used the LANtest ($99 set) before...
http://www.cablestogo.com/product...at_id=1423 But distance measurement automatically makes the price go up beyond $200. And the only reason you'd need a Fluke is if you were actually wanting to certify the cables meet certain industry standards. If you want to just check for continuity and pair mapping, then it isn't too expensive to get a cable tester. |

http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=2 Works like a champ! It's only $30.00. Now, it's not super fancy, but it does tell which pair contains breaks / shorts / crosses. But for a bit more than double the price, I'd say go with the first one that was linked to. It's much nicer, and has the additional features you're wanting. |
