connect led tv to home theater and directtv hd-dvr
i recently bought a 55" lg led tv model #55ls4600 and lg home theater system model #bh6720s. i have them connected to a direct tv hd-dvr hr-24 but for some reasn the sound when watching dirct tv comes out horrible from the home theater system. i have the tv connected to the hd-dvr with an hdmi cable and then the home theater connected to the tv with a separate hdmi cable. i also have audio cables from the hd-dvr connected to the home theater system. the home theater sounds fine when playing the fm radio or a dvd through it but not when watching tv. did i connect it incorrectly or do i need a different cable? |

I personally don't like that setup because I don't need home theater sound for watching things like news or most tv shows for that matter (Big Bang Theory does not get any funnier with the surround on). ------------- Anyways, back to the OP. My guess is that your DVR doesn't like outputting two sets of sounds. HDMI audio to your TV + Composite Audio to your HTIB. Does your TV have an Composite Audio Out? I would try connecting your TV to the HTIB via Composite Audio instead of DVR > HTIB. Besides having the option of using TV or HTIB for sound with the DVR, the setup will also give you the added bonus of louder audio from any source connected to your TV such as a temporary laptop or playing back video from a digital camera. Audio Fidelity impact from the DVR should be minimal between my recommended setup and what you currently have. |

The easiest way to connect a device like this is:
Attach it to the TV with an HDMI cable. Attach a TOSLINK cable between the TV's audio out and the home theater's audio in. Attach your directv unit to your TV as before ( probably a direct HDMI cable) With this, every audio source will play correctly through your home theater, and of you turn off the home theater, audio will play through the tv speakers. As with any system like this, you must mute the audio playing from your TV speakers while audio is playing through the home theater, because they will be out of sync and they'll sound really bad like that. This may be the cause of the audio distortion you're experiencing. PM me if you have more questions, in case I don't find this thread. |

i connected the tv to the home theater optical audio toslink cable i bought from amazon but that didnt fix the problem. i tried calling lg but they were useless. the sound still sucks when watching directv. i had to turn the sond back on via the tv speakers instead of turning the volume so high on the home theater. right now i hve this setup
tv to home theater thru hdmi tv to home theater via optical audio cable directtv hd-dvr to tv via hdmi maybe my settings on either he tv or home theater re bad or maybe the home theater is just bd? i got no clue at this point. any help would be appreciated. |
