Component Video Cables to Receiver
I noticed that my receiver has 2 Component Video Inputs and 1 Component Video Output. My DVD Player/Recorder has 1 Component Video Output, which I connect to the Component Video Input on my television in order to watch DVDs. Would there be an advantage to connecting component cables to/from the DVD player and TV to the back of the receiver and if so, how (in what order) would I connect these cables? All this audio/visual stuff in confusing LOL. |

With the receiver you can use your home theater speakers, which are much better than the TVs speakers. I would defintely take advantage of the home theater speakers. You might use SPDIF if supported.
You can use component cables with a Roku or a computer. Even better HDMI with WD Live TV, Blu Ray player, computer, etc. Last edited by evongugg; 07-12-2012 at 11:14 AM.. |

Another possible benefit of routing video through your receiver is the On Screen Display (OSD).
For instance, my receiver can show me all my options on my TV when I press the receiver's setup button, instead of having the scroll through each option 1-by-1 from reading the receiver's 1 line display. Also, my receiver temporary shows me a volume bar on the TV when I change the receiver's volume. I love this feature because my receiver is hidden behind a cabinet door and the receiver display is not visible during typical use. |

Some receivers enhance the signal. See if your does. And just an fyi, the component cables only do the video portion, you need to also connect to the digital output to get audio.
And BTW2 - component video is obsolete. E finita la cuccagna
