Why would any one buy a COA sticker for winxp

I was looking through @bay and i seen a auction for a COA(certificate of authenticity )sticker for windoze XP, cut out from the original metal computer cabinet,still mounted on metal for sale/sold.
My question is ,Why would any one need a COA sticker from a old computer?

My only guess is that it is still a valid, usable product key for someone looking to use XP.

This... You can likely still activate it just fine even if you have different hardware. Although there were different versions (OEM, retail, etc) of XP that were associated with different keys, so unless you have the right version for that key it could be a crapshoot.

Yep if its a retail key thats the only way you could legally purchase it.

Sometimes those boxes are helpful when reselling it. You can get a premium if you still have the box.

I remember when the PS3 came out people were listing buy it now for "Picture of 40gb PS3" and then the description talks about the PS3 and they sold tons for $300+

They were also selling the boxes for huge amounts of money.

Yeah, if I'm selling a premium item (ESPECIALLY an Apple product - Apple fans are nuts about packaging) I'll buy an original box for it before I sell it. A $10 empty box can boost the selling price of an iPad by about $25.

To answer the OP's question, if it's a RETAIL key then that's the license, and it would be good to have for a computer with no OS. If it's an OEM key, then there's NO reason to buy it because 1) under the EULA they're not transferrable; and 2) large OEM installs (Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc) generally don't even use the key number on the sticker for XP.

That's what I do. These days, w/ the ability to resell almost anything on eBay and other marketplaces (sometimes for more than you paid originally), it's crazy to not keep your packaging, at least if you want top dollar.

The PS3 originally came in 20GB and 60GB models My 60GB is still chugging along
