Deal Details

It's here! Are your wallets ready for the abuse? Here's hoping there are great deals to be had here. I'll update this thread with sales and deals.

Click here for sale's frontpage: http://store.steampowered.com/

Quick primer for the newcomers:

  • Daily Deals: Each day, new daily deals appear at 10AM PST and expires the next day at 10PM
  • Flash Deals: At any given time, there will be 4 deals that won't last long (several hours). When one expires, another replaces it.
  • Community Vote Deals: You get to vote on what the next deal is. Every 8 hours.
  • Deals spanning the entire event: Various games and bundles are on sale for the entire sale, however play it smart and only buy a game if it's a daily deal (when the price is lower). Resort to buying what doesn't go on sale as a daily deal at the end of the sale.
Steam Sale Commandments:
  • Thou shalt not purchase any individual title unless it is a daily/flash/community deal. Wait until the end to buy otherwise.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to jump on too-good-to-be-true deals as there have been price mistakes in the past sales. Price mistakes are honored.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to dip into the kids' college funds to buy these games
  • Thou shalt live off of ramen until the end of the sale
====Current Deals====
Remember, never buy a game unless it's a daily/flash/community deal. If it never shows up as a daily/flash/community deal, go ahead and buy it on sale at the last minute.

7/22 Daily Deals (ends 10PM 7/23):
Flash Deals:
When a flash deal ends, another begins...
Community Vote Deal:
A new poll and deal every 8 hours...

====Event-wide Deals (July 12th - 23rd)====
I cannot express this enough: only buy games if it is a daily/flash/community deal. Resort to purchasing on-sale games at the last minute if it never appears as a daily deal.

Individual Titles:
A subjective listing of some cheap/good games that I believe are already at their lowest. Might as well buy these whenever. Please do your own research first before buying!

Publisher Bundles:

ARMA II: Combined Ops is 20% off down to $23.99, but I'm guessing since it's not a daily deal I should wait?
Ya i'm on a work computer atm so i can't see these deals but i would wait for that one. I am loving arma 2 free but i'll pay up to $20 or so for combined ops. Is there a pack for it? 3/4/6 or something pack?

After the way so many people abused the system during the Winter sale, it's not that surprising that they decided to go a different route. I do like the idea of deals that users can vote on, though. I voted for Saint's Row The Third, personally, since that seems like the best deal of the three.

BTW, be sure to check the list of games for $5 and under. You might find a hidden gem for 75% off that doesn't show up as a daily deal.
The only reason the winter coal deal was abused was because they were pushing the trading system hard so they left the door wide open. They could go back to the methods they used in previous sales which weren't open to abuse.

Looks like they'll probably do daily badges and those may have individual game achievements, but so far it looks like the overall theme and activity list is incomplete. Instead of being an exciting community activity with lots of incentives to try new games, it's just a run of the mill sale plus voting.

I'm probably going to pick up some old Rockstar games, maybe an indie game or two and be done with it - when they go on daily sale.

Ghostmaster for around $1.50 is always a steal. One of my fav little games.

How do flash deals work? Because in the OP, it says every 2 hours, but when I look at each game, it says 7 hours left, 9 hours left, etc....nowhere near 2 hours

I forgot people did that, that is just another reason to hate stupid people.

Flash deals makes things really interesting now. I wonder if the games in flash deals could go lower as daily deals. For instance, 50% off Rayman Origins as a flash deal is nothing special, but could it potentially pop up at 66-75% off as a daily?

Grimrock for $6 is a great price. Excellent dungeon crawler with good puzzle and impressive lighting effects. Not much replay value since the floors aren't randomly generated, but the devs are working on a level creator so people can create their own labyrinths.
I'm wondering much the same thing about the flash sales myself. Also, how in the world are those of us who are at work possibly supposed to take advantage of these 'Flash Deals' when they expire two hours later?! I can't access it from work. I'll be pretty peeved if I miss a great deal because i'm at work and they make the game i want a flash sale!

I agree, Grimrock is a GREAT deal for that price! I actually saw it at GOG for $7.50 (may still be there for the same price) and passed as i figured it would likely be on Steam for even cheaper....if GOG still has the game on sale, i'll have to see which provides better material with it. GOG always adds some nice perks, and it's all DRM free....i don't know, ill have to weigh it out, but either way, i'm buying this game!

Yes, yes you should wait. I also am waiting, and once it's the right price (ie - daily deal or whatnot) i'll be picking it up so i can get that zombie mode DayZ or whatnot.

Two hours seems to be the time separating the end of each individual flash deal. DX: HR ends in 5:19, Mafia II ends in 7:19, Spacechem ends in 9:19, etc.

From what I can tell, you can vote on three flash deals each day (new Community's Choice every 8 hours), but there will be others as well that we'll have no control over.

Does anyone know if Pack Deals will get any more discount? Really interested in the Bethesda one and won't mind paying even $50 for it.

Packs generally don't go on daily markdowns, but the games in the packs may go much steeper.
