Deal Details

It's here! Are your wallets ready for the abuse? Here's hoping there are great deals to be had here. I'll update this thread with sales and deals.

Click here for sale's frontpage: http://store.steampowered.com/

Quick primer for the newcomers:

  • Daily Deals: Each day, new daily deals appear at 10AM PST and expires the next day at 10PM
  • Flash Deals: At any given time, there will be 4 deals that won't last long (several hours). When one expires, another replaces it.
  • Community Vote Deals: You get to vote on what the next deal is. Every 8 hours.
  • Deals spanning the entire event: Various games and bundles are on sale for the entire sale, however play it smart and only buy a game if it's a daily deal (when the price is lower). Resort to buying what doesn't go on sale as a daily deal at the end of the sale.
Steam Sale Commandments:
  • Thou shalt not purchase any individual title unless it is a daily/flash/community deal. Wait until the end to buy otherwise.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to jump on too-good-to-be-true deals as there have been price mistakes in the past sales. Price mistakes are honored.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to dip into the kids' college funds to buy these games
  • Thou shalt live off of ramen until the end of the sale
====Current Deals====
Remember, never buy a game unless it's a daily/flash/community deal. If it never shows up as a daily/flash/community deal, go ahead and buy it on sale at the last minute.

7/22 Daily Deals (ends 10PM 7/23):
Flash Deals:
When a flash deal ends, another begins...
Community Vote Deal:
A new poll and deal every 8 hours...

====Event-wide Deals (July 12th - 23rd)====
I cannot express this enough: only buy games if it is a daily/flash/community deal. Resort to purchasing on-sale games at the last minute if it never appears as a daily deal.

Individual Titles:
A subjective listing of some cheap/good games that I believe are already at their lowest. Might as well buy these whenever. Please do your own research first before buying!

Publisher Bundles:

Can anyone list me good indie games which can be played on my PC xbox controller ?
Keep an eye out for Braid, Limbo, Aquaria, Bastion, Trine. They're games I remember playing and definitely know have controller support built-in. Some may not be as indie as others, but definitely all from relatively small studios compared to mainstream titles. All of those are 1-3 years old but they still play well; I haven't been keeping up with the scene for current games to play.

A decent general strategy if you want to do some legwork, while waiting for suggestions, is to look at the most popular games from Xbox Arcade and see if they also have PC versions.

If starting your search from the list of PC games, low-hanging fruit to start checking would be any side-scrolling 2D style game. Notable exception is Terraria, which doesn't have controller support built-in, and a lot of its gameplay is keyboard/mouse dependent anyway, even if you used something like JoyToKey.

Um with the exception of portal 2 most of those games have been free before...

And all (again except Portal 2) are extremely dated, that pack might be good deal @20$

Is anybody else having troubles updating games via Steam? I can never get updates to run and then whenever I want to play a game, I get the "server too busy to handle your request" bit. Won't run them offline - I already tried that. I already changed a bunch of port settings on my router so Steam is accepted, but it just doesn't seem to work..

Steampowered forums are too much of a mess to sort through, just wondering if anybody had solved a similar issue.

Oh, and to remain somewhat on topic, if I can get Steam to run, I'll consider buying a new game. Smilie

Yup. Those are the "See and Ignore" list for me. $49.99 for a steam game/package is highway robbery lol

I'll stick with the $4.99s and the $7.49s thanks Smilie

Nothing for me today, just glad that they are finally having the SALE! But I'm posting to say you should definitely get Hard Reset if you have any interest in it. The plot wasn't much to write home about, but the action was fun and it's a no-brainer at this price.

Anyone thinking MW3 will come down in price? Have seen it at this price on amazon all year, looking for more like $20-$25 (lets me buy another $5 game Smilie).

Was thinking hard for CoD, but with the rampant hacking that goes on there, I'm really dissuaded from buying it for PC.

As someone who has stupidly stuck with the CoD franchise on PC since MW2, please avoid MW3. I haven't touched since January because of my disgust with Activision and IW. It's basically the same thing with laggy hosts and hacked games. At least Black Ops was decent...

So what I'm hearing is "Hey rebelx, save your $30 and apply it towards the $50 (after some sort of pre-order deal) for Black Ops 2." Am I right?

There's a lot of rich, dumb people out there. Ok, not "dumb" but let's just say, not slickdeal-savvy Big Grin
How do you guys figure the $50 bundles are not slick? Some of them are incredible deals.
