Deal Details

It's here! Are your wallets ready for the abuse? Here's hoping there are great deals to be had here. I'll update this thread with sales and deals.

Click here for sale's frontpage: http://store.steampowered.com/

Quick primer for the newcomers:

  • Daily Deals: Each day, new daily deals appear at 10AM PST and expires the next day at 10PM
  • Flash Deals: At any given time, there will be 4 deals that won't last long (several hours). When one expires, another replaces it.
  • Community Vote Deals: You get to vote on what the next deal is. Every 8 hours.
  • Deals spanning the entire event: Various games and bundles are on sale for the entire sale, however play it smart and only buy a game if it's a daily deal (when the price is lower). Resort to buying what doesn't go on sale as a daily deal at the end of the sale.
Steam Sale Commandments:
  • Thou shalt not purchase any individual title unless it is a daily/flash/community deal. Wait until the end to buy otherwise.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to jump on too-good-to-be-true deals as there have been price mistakes in the past sales. Price mistakes are honored.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to dip into the kids' college funds to buy these games
  • Thou shalt live off of ramen until the end of the sale
====Current Deals====
Remember, never buy a game unless it's a daily/flash/community deal. If it never shows up as a daily/flash/community deal, go ahead and buy it on sale at the last minute.

7/22 Daily Deals (ends 10PM 7/23):
Flash Deals:
When a flash deal ends, another begins...
Community Vote Deal:
A new poll and deal every 8 hours...

====Event-wide Deals (July 12th - 23rd)====
I cannot express this enough: only buy games if it is a daily/flash/community deal. Resort to purchasing on-sale games at the last minute if it never appears as a daily deal.

Individual Titles:
A subjective listing of some cheap/good games that I believe are already at their lowest. Might as well buy these whenever. Please do your own research first before buying!

I'm thinking of the Nordic Hits collection, as I have none of those games, but I've been wanting to try the Gothic and Spellforce series (maybe not all of them, as I don't usually play games from 2001). Generally like RPG, turn based or RTS strategy (and sometimes FPS if the mood strikes), and that bundle has a lot of those. Anyone have an opinion on Spellforce 2 or Arcania?

How do you guys figure the $50 bundles are not slick? Some of them are incredible deals.
The THQ Pack in particular is amazing. Company of Heroes, Darksiders, Metro 2033, the original STALKER, Titan Quest Gold, Space Marine, Dawn of War II plus expansions, Saints Row The Third, and more for $50. If you already own half the games or so then it's less appealing. But for those that one one or none? Excellent amount of content and quality for the price.

Tropico 4 is down to $15 (50% off), no way am i buying that bundle with it, don't need/want those other titles. Will it go down in price do you think towards end of sale?

COD: Modern Warfare
COD: Modern Warfare 2
COD: Black Ops
Battlefield: Bad Company
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Battlefield: 3

I've played all of these games in the past few years and while I can remember some things happening in these games, I'll never be able to remember which game these things happened in. They're all pretty much the same. From a single player standpoint anyway. I'm much more interested in the indie set nowadays. Hoping for a sale on Dear Esther.

Nobody knows but usually, if it's not currently a daily deal, it will remain at that price until the sale is over so your best bet is to wait to see if the price drops. If it doesn't you can just buy it on the last day.

It has a kickass singleplayer but the multiplayer isn't anything new if you played the other ones. SP alone isn't worth all that money.

Out of that list, the only games with good multiplayer were COD: Modern Warfare and BF:BFC2

MW2 had literally thousands of modded lobbies and kids running around with 3 guns/4 perks and bs like that.

Black Ops was nothing new...at all.

Bad Company 1 wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either.

Battlefield 3 is just a big ball of hackers, campers, and kids using OP guns.

So what I'm hearing is "Hey rebelx, save your $30 and apply it towards the $50 (after some sort of pre-order deal) for Black Ops 2." Am I right?
Just avoid CoD in general unless you REALLY love it. They've been using the same recycled engine since COD4: MW.

I have 19 hours into that game total and some of it was because friends were playing with me online, its just another expansion pack onto the previous ones. Black ops 2 may actually change the game a little but idk if its worth it, certainly not $40+. I got arma 2 free and played 40 hours on that and 31 hours on tribes ascend just this month. MW3 has been out for what nearly a year and i only played 19 hours? Not worth it...

I'm waiting for a deal on arma 2 CO and probably nothing else.

Just a heads up: The Amazon rep over on the CheapAssGamer Forums has said that if Saint's Row The Third wins the flash deal voting, Amazon will beat Steam's price. I'm guessing it'll be $10 vs. Steam's $12.50.
