Deal Details

It's here! Are your wallets ready for the abuse? Here's hoping there are great deals to be had here. I'll update this thread with sales and deals.

Click here for sale's frontpage: http://store.steampowered.com/

Quick primer for the newcomers:

  • Daily Deals: Each day, new daily deals appear at 10AM PST and expires the next day at 10PM
  • Flash Deals: At any given time, there will be 4 deals that won't last long (several hours). When one expires, another replaces it.
  • Community Vote Deals: You get to vote on what the next deal is. Every 8 hours.
  • Deals spanning the entire event: Various games and bundles are on sale for the entire sale, however play it smart and only buy a game if it's a daily deal (when the price is lower). Resort to buying what doesn't go on sale as a daily deal at the end of the sale.
Steam Sale Commandments:
  • Thou shalt not purchase any individual title unless it is a daily/flash/community deal. Wait until the end to buy otherwise.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to jump on too-good-to-be-true deals as there have been price mistakes in the past sales. Price mistakes are honored.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to dip into the kids' college funds to buy these games
  • Thou shalt live off of ramen until the end of the sale
====Current Deals====
Remember, never buy a game unless it's a daily/flash/community deal. If it never shows up as a daily/flash/community deal, go ahead and buy it on sale at the last minute.

7/22 Daily Deals (ends 10PM 7/23):
Flash Deals:
When a flash deal ends, another begins...
Community Vote Deal:
A new poll and deal every 8 hours...

====Event-wide Deals (July 12th - 23rd)====
I cannot express this enough: only buy games if it is a daily/flash/community deal. Resort to purchasing on-sale games at the last minute if it never appears as a daily deal.

Individual Titles:
A subjective listing of some cheap/good games that I believe are already at their lowest. Might as well buy these whenever. Please do your own research first before buying!

Publisher Bundles:

I have the retail box version of Sins of a Solar Empire and it's registered on Impulse (and is my only non-Steam "digital download"). Is SoSE: Trinity the base game with two expansions? Might be worth 5 bucks to get it on Steam if so.
Yes, yes.

The OP has Fable 3 listed as $4.99 on a current Community Vote deal, but clicking the link takes me to the store page where the pack is $12.49 (same price as the expired flash deal).

It doesn't look like Fable 3 can be bought individually for $5. Is the OP mistaken or did I miss out on the stand alone game going for $5? I don't care about the pack because I don't care about DLC - I just want the game for $5. Sadwalk

Today's deals were weak except for sim city 4 TurbanTurbanTurbanTurbanTurbanTurbanTurbanTurbanTurban
To be entirely fair, SimCity 4 Deluxe was released over 9 years ago, in 2003.

The fact that the retail price is still $20 amazes me.

Yep. Sins of the Solar Empire and its two expansions were packaged as Trinity. I think the most recent true expansion came out last year.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is on sale for 25% off, which is a decent deal considering it came out last month. Rebellion is a "standalone expansion" rather than a true sequel. It includes all of the previous content and additionally splits the factions into Rebels and Loyalists, creating 6 'races' from 3 (obviously the two factions share many of the same units so they aren't completely different). There are a variety of other improvements in Rebellion, including some rather nice graphical ones, a new type of end-game ship as a way to deal with the ridiculous defensive power of Starbases (Titans), and some rather substantial AI improvements (though they still will chain suicide into your Starbases).

However, even on sale for $30, that's a steep difference (there were a ton of complaints about the $40 price tag) from $5, but if you really liked the original Sins, I'd get Rebellion while it is on sale. If you haven't played Sins of a Solar Empire before but like Civilization-style games and don't want to shell out $30, I'd absolutely get Trinity for $5 - you really can't go wrong with that. The fundamental gameplay is very similar, there are just a lot of quality of life improvements and several new abilities/units in Rebellion.

I wish more listed controller compatibility. I screwed around and missed Limbo @ 2.50 Dammit! I was hoping Payday would drop back down to $5 so I can snap it up. Does anyone know if Killing Floor is natively compatible with a controller. I know it is not L33T to use a controller on PC but sometimes I like to kick back and play in a comfy chair.

Is LA Noire worth the $5? I thought it looked really interesting, but not sure at all what to expect.

Definitely worth it, its a very fun game. Its a mystery solving game for the most part, with some combat and driving and a pretty amazing 1940s/50s LA setting. You can definitely tell a lot of time and love was poured into the game, for $5 its a steal. Its definitely got a lot of cut scenes, talking, video, etc so if you are just an action junkie it may not be a great fit but if you like games that feel like a movie it is great.

Correct , base game and the 2 expansions .

I too have the retail version and dont care for playing it through Impulse since Gamestop took it over . I'll probably re-buy it myself for a mear $5 .

or

Thinking of getting Rebellion which incorporates all the past SOSE with all the new goodies , but was I hoping for a lower price than $30 . It being so new , it just may not get any cheaper during the summer sale . Frown

What tearsinthrain said...each case felt like a cheesy detective novelette, but if you like the genre, it's hard to beat this game at the price, I paid $20ish and don't regret it at all...It looks and plays great with all the effort they put into capturing the suspect/witness body language for the interviews was very impressive...

Alright, I am sold. I love detective noir. I am not necessarily an action junkie so I think I will buy it (even if I am not sure when I will have time to play it!).

I'm not sure what to make of the lack of a single player campaign. I can't decide if it's genius or madness.

I know I felt like it was missing when I played the original. Maybe I'm just conditioned to expect that in all games now- kind of like assuming all current day movies will have a happy ending.

Any news from the mod community on LA Noire? Like graphical enhancements similar to what happened wih GTA 4 and the fps cap fix?

I have yet to play The Longest Journey but I always see people saying to buy it when it is on sale.

Is it still a great game/hold up after 12 years?
